Women's Sportswear Designer (Associate to Designer Level)

Our client is a growing apparel and activewear organization that develops accessible, trend-driven clothing for broad retail and specialty distribution channels. The team is seeking a highly creative, commercially minded Women's Sportswear Designer to shape seasonal collections that blend performance, comfort, fit, and modern style. About the Role In this role, you will partner closely with Merchandising, Product Development, Technical Design, and Sales to translate market insights into compelling product assortments. You will bring a strong point of view on color, fabric, silhouette, and construction while ensuring designs align with customer needs, calendar milestones, and business objectives. Responsibilities What You'll Do Design seasonal women's sportswear and activewear collections from initial concept through final production handoff. Create concept boards, color palettes, sketches, CADs, technical flats, and presentation materials. Research fashion, activewear, fabric, color, consumer, and competitive trends to identify relevant product opportunities. Collaborate with cross-functional partners to maintain design intent throughout development, sampling, fittings, and production. Partner with fabric and trim teams to select innovative, functional, and commercially viable materials. Attend fittings and work with Technical Design to refine garment fit, functionality, construction, and overall aesthetic. Develop clear technical design packages and maintain organized files, specifications, and handoff documentation. Manage multiple projects and deliverables while meeting seasonal development calendar milestones. Balance creative direction with margin, assortment, price-point, and channel considerations. Stay informed on innovations in performance fabrics, garment construction, sustainability, and digital design tools. Qualifications What You'll Bring Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design or a related discipline. 6+ years of apparel design experience, ideally within women's sportswear, activewear, lifestyle, or performance categories. A strong portfolio demonstrating concept development, CADs, technical flats, color stories, and finished product examples. Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; experience with PLM systems is required. Strong knowledge of garment construction, fit, technical fabrics, trims, and apparel development processes. A well-developed eye for trend forecasting, color, material innovation, and commercial product direction. Excellent organizational, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills. The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and overlapping deadlines. Required Skills Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Experience with PLM systems. Strong knowledge of garment construction, fit, technical fabrics, trims, and apparel development processes. Trend forecasting, color, and material innovation skills. Organizational, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet seasonal development calendar milestones. Preferred Skills Preferred Qualifications Experience designing apparel programs for mass retail, club, department store, or specialty retail channels. Familiarity with sustainable materials, responsible sourcing, or circular product-development practices. Experience with 3D apparel design tools such as CLO 3D or Browzwear. Experience using Centric PLM or a comparable product lifecycle management platform. Pay range and compensation package Compensation Salary Range: $80,000-$100,000 USD annually, depending on qualifications, experience, and location.
