Our Mission: We are building a Gen Z-led movement seeking to empower young leaders to advocate for transformative policy and bold political action, predominantly at a state and local level. We are committed to a bottom-up movement that prioritizes the needs of the communities we represent and seeks to reclaim our future by advocating for social, economic, environmental, and other kinds of political reform.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Chapter Founder and Executive Director of the New York Chapter serves as the initial executive leader of a Beyond the Ballot chapter during its formation phase. This role is responsible for establishing foundational chapter operations, recruiting and retaining initial membership, and ensuring alignment with Beyond the Ballot’s national bylaws, policies, and strategic direction. The Chapter Founder and Executive Director may choose to run for the elected position of Chapter Director once the chapter reaches operational status. Election outcomes are determined by chapter membership in accordance with Beyond the Ballot bylaws and operating guidelines. Upon signing the Chapter Affiliate Agreement, the Founder is formally appointed as Interim Chapter Director and holds executive authority until the chapter reaches operational classification, defined as a minimum of eight (8) active members and the successful completion of chapter elections. This position requires strong political judgment, organizational discipline, and a commitment to youth-led, bottom-up organizing in alignment with Beyond the Ballot’s national mission, strategy, and policies.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or technical school preferred.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Prior work in the non-profit sector is highly preferred.
Experience in managing and mentoring staff and volunteers, collaborating with different departments, and fostering a positive work culture.
Demonstrated commitment to youth-led, working-class political organizing.
Experience in community organizing, advocacy, or political engagement.
Ability to recruit, coordinate, and motivate volunteers.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Willingness to operate within a structured, accountable national framework.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
Prior leadership experience in a nonprofit, campaign, or student organization.
Familiarity with state or local political processes.
Experience working in coalition or movement-based environments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Oversee the development of initial chapter infrastructure, including leadership roles, meeting cadence, and internal procedures.
Recruit, onboard, and retain at least eight (8) active members to achieve operational classification while maintaining the membership roster over the course of 30-60 days, with special considerations for extensions.
Lead the establishment of Beyond the Ballot New York as an active, functioning chapter.
Ensure all chapter activities align with university, local, and state regulations, where applicable, as well as Beyond the Ballot’s mission, policy agenda, bylaws, and national strategic plans.
Maintain accurate internal records and support the creation of required reports for national review.
This position requires strong political judgment, organizational discipline, and a commitment to youth-led, bottom-up organizing in alignment with Beyond the Ballot’s national mission, strategy, and policies.
Preside over meetings and ensure transparent decision-making.
Initiate, develop, and cultivate relationships with chartered community and campus chapters within the region.

Understand how to manage stress.
Remote Work Requirements: Regular access to a stable internet connection is required.
Additional Work Conditions & Physical Abilities: Ability to be flexible and adapt as needed between various in-person working environments. May require travel to multiple states.
