Major Gift Officer – New England Boston University Advancement is seeking a Major Gift Officer (MGO) to build, manage, and advance a dynamic portfolio of major gift prospects primarily in the New England region. The MGO will lead the full major gift cycle—identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship—focusing on commitments of $100,000 and above, and will collaborate extensively with campus leaders and advancement colleagues to maximize philanthropic impact. Position Overview The role is full‑time (Grade 50) with an annual compensation range of $86,050–$114,750. It requires disciplined portfolio management, strategic engagement planning, and the ability to build authentic relationships with donors and institutional stakeholders. Responsibilities Prospect Qualification, Cultivation & Solicitation (50 %): manage a portfolio of ~100 prospects, build long‑term relationships, develop and execute targeted solicitation plans, guide prospects through decision‑making, and secure six‑ and seven‑figure gifts. Pipeline Development & Cross‑Unit Collaboration (20 %): partner with Annual Giving, Principal Giving, and other Advancement colleagues to strengthen the donor pipeline and support seamless movement across the giving continuum. Donor Stewardship & Communication (15 %): work with Stewardship and Donor Relations to provide timely, personalized communications and coordinate stewardship efforts with schools, colleges, and administrative units. Event Strategy & Special Projects (15 %): design engagement plans that leverage curated events and experiences, and support special projects as directed by senior leadership. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education and experience. Five or more years of relevant professional experience in fundraising, advancement, business development, sales, or relationship management in a complex organization. Demonstrated success building and sustaining strong relationships with donors or key stakeholders. Strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and collaborate effectively. Strategic thinker with strong organizational skills and a results‑oriented approach to portfolio management. Ability and willingness to travel as required. Preferred Qualifications Experience in higher‑education advancement, nonprofit fundraising, or a similar mission‑driven organization. Experience managing and soliciting major gift prospects, including developing and executing cultivation and solicitation strategies. Knowledge of philanthropic principles, major‑gift fundraising, and planned‑giving vehicles. Experience partnering with senior leaders, volunteers, faculty, or other high‑level stakeholders.
