Athletic Trainer

We are pioneers in fully leveraging Athletic Trainers (ATs) in our metro area practice. Our ATs have more responsibilities, such as doing physical examinations and some are even able to scrub into the OR. Key Position Details 1.0 FTE Athletic Trainer position in our clinic orthopedic department (80 hour every 2 week pay period) 8 hour day shift 8:00-5:00 pm – no nights, weekends, or holidays. Responsibilities Provides clinical services Rooming and age appropriate vitals, review of medication, allergy, and tobacco history, documentation of reason for visit in accordance with established protocols. Gather complete patient histories and conduct Review of Systems, including past medical, surgical, social, and family history. Perform initial patient examinations and summarize findings and test results to the provider for review and direction. Document accurately and timely in the electronic medical record. Provide patient care and education before and after encounters or procedures as directed by the provider. Coordinate care activities with physicians and other clinical team members to support efficient patient flow. Assist with specimen collection, labeling, and processing. Administer therapies or treatments as directed by the provider. Follow through to resolve service problems promptly and professionally with involvement of appropriate clinic personnel. Communicate with providers and clinical team members to organize and prioritize assigned work to support patient care. Utilization of Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and Casting/Splinting Apply and remove casts and splints according to established procedures. Provide basic patient education on cast, splint, and DME care. Fit DME and provide instruction on proper use. Complete required documentation and billing paperwork accurately. Provides injury prevention and coordination to student athletes Support and care through attendance at practices and games as outlined by Outreach or Organization contracts. Coordinate the clinical access of the injured athlete. Supervise conditioning and/or rehabilitation of the student athlete in the Outreach setting. Act as a member of the care team in the athletic clinic setting. Develop the plan and assist the athlete in injury rehab process. Perform effective assessment, first aid, and rehabilitation of the injured. Assess the recovery of the injured athlete and initiate changes based on knowledge and consultation with the care team. Maintain records on students treated for injuries. Give concise, effective information to student athletes, parents, patients and family regarding care, self‑care and follow‑up. Cooperate with other clinical areas and agencies focusing on patient centered care. Assist with maintaining communication and physical referrals. Maintain a safe environment for self and athlete by using equipment properly. Assess and report environmental risks or equipment malfunctions. Provides outreach athletic training medical services in addition to standard work week, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications Master’s degree in Athletic Training required OR Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training prior to 2022. Basic proficiency in electronic medical record documentation. Preferred Qualifications Experience in an orthopedic, sports medicine, or outpatient clinical setting. Licenses / Certifications Licensed Athletic Trainer – MN Board of Medical Practice required if providing services in MN upon hire. Licensed Athletic Trainer – WI Dept of Safety & Professional Services required if providing services in WI upon hire. Certified Athletic Trainer – Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer required upon hire. Must meet at least ONE of the following BLS requirements: BLS certification from the American Heart Association. BLS certification from the American Red Cross. Allina in‑house BLS training (within 30 days of hire). Physical Demands Medium work: Lifting weight up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 25 lbs. frequently. Pay Range Pay Range: $27.65 to $37.90 per hour. The pay described reflects the base hiring pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
