Public Health Nurse IV - Bureau of Epidemiology and Disease Control

The Department of Health is currently seeking a Public Health Nurse IV in the Bureau of Epidemiology and Disease Control, for their Great River location.Key Elements Of The Role:Oversees the Bureau of Epidemiology of Disease Control, which is charged with preventing the occurrence and spread of communicable diseases in Suffolk County.Acts as the bureau chief responsible for overall supervision of bureau functions, including clinical and non-clinical aspectsOversees the bureau’s disease surveillance, investigation and control activities for over 70 reportable communicable diseases. This includes case and cluster investigation, contact investigation, and institution of outbreak control measures as needed.Develops policies and procedures for the bureau, in conjunction with the Director of Public HealthResponds to calls from residents and healthcare facilities regarding communicable disease cases, suspected cases, and potential exposures. In order to become permanent, the employee who is provisionally appointed must take the next examination for the position in question. The appointment to the position is then made from among the three highest scoring passing candidates who indicate their willingness to accept the position.
