Telecommunications Technician I State of New Hampshire Department of Transportation, Bureau of Transportation Systems Management and Operations Location: 18 Smokey Bear Boulevard, Concord, NH Position #TMPPT5100 Pay: $19.96/hour - $26.41/hour Summary To supervise and perform skilled communication systems technician work involving the installation, maintenance, and repair of NH DOT radio transmitting and receiving equipment. Qualifications Education/Experience: Equivalent combination of 2.5 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Must be in radio engineering, installation or maintenance, electronics, communications, or related fields. License/Certification: Valid driver's license. Applicants’ Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards as established by the hiring agency. Applicants are subject to a New Hampshire criminal record background check. Preferred Qualifications Technical certificate in telecommunications, electronics, radio communications, or a related field. Strong understanding of radio frequency (RF) principles and telecommunications standards. Knowledge of safety protocols related to tower work and electrical systems. Good troubleshooting and diagnostic skills. Effective communication and documentation abilities. Responsibilities Participate in and supervise removal, installation, repair, calibration, and testing of mobile radio equipment in NH DOT vehicles and related assets to ensure reliable statewide intra-DOT mobile voice communications. Install mountain‑top radio repeater stations, conduct site surveys and selections, recommend and order appropriate materials and components, oversee tower installation, and perform testing to optimize system performance and coverage. Perform recalibration and preventive maintenance on mountain‑top repeater stations (excluding receiver/transmitter units) to ensure station reliability, longevity, and optimal operation. Operate and analyze test instruments such as bird wattmeters, oscilloscopes, and signal generators to diagnose equipment malfunctions and determine necessary repairs. Maintain accurate inventories and records of all NH DOT radio equipment, ensuring accountability and precise tracking of equipment locations. Develop and manage vehicle radio removal and installation schedules in coordination with all NH DOT agencies to ensure efficient, timely, and coordinated radio system upgrades and maintenance.
