Job Description and Duties

Under the supervision of the Lieutenant (Supervising Special Investigator I, SSI I), Protective Services Branch (PSB), the Office Technician (Typing) (OT) (T) is responsible for performing a variety of tasks and duties in support of the investigative, police and fire services for Porterville Developmental Center (PDC). These duties will include typing detailed and confidential police and investigative reports; distributing and controlling the record-keeping section for all confidential reports and documents and maintaining multiple database systems. Other tasks include responding to correspondence; maintaining the investigation case logs; answering telephones; maintaining monthly attendance reports; ordering office supplies; travel and training expenditures, purchasing required equipment for PSB personnel; and working with a variety of departmental personnel.

This position requires the incumbent to maintain consistent, regular attendance, be able to work various shifts, communicate effectively, demonstrate initiative, independence, and originality in performing tasks, exemplify responsibility and dependability for completing assignments and functions timely and accurately while maintaining confidentiality as necessary.

Effective July 1, 2025, State employees are subject to a salary reduction of three per cent in exchange for five hours per month of the Personal Leave.

Working Conditions

Pursuant to California Government Code requirements, candidates must be residents of the State of California at the time of appointment.

This position requires lawful authorization to work in the United States. The Department does not sponsor employment visas for this position.

Work is performed in an open-spaced partitioned office environment. Requires using a computer while reviewing and/or preparing documents.

Special Requirements

• The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. The Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) must be numbered in the same order as the following areas, typed in 12-point Arial font, single spaced, and be no more than two pages in length. Applicants who fail to answer the questions or submit an SOQ may not be considered.
