Small Animal Internist - Carolina Veterinary Specialists

Position Overview We are seeking a dedicated Board-Certified or Residency Trained Small Animal Internist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing high-quality veterinary care and possess excellent communication skills to build lasting relationships with our clients. You will work alongside a team of experienced veterinarians, technicians, and support staff and will collaborate closely with the Hospital Manager and Regional Manager. Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive patient exams and medical work-ups Communicate and educate clients about patient care and treatment plans Maintain accurate medical records and documentation Perform pharmacy duties, including prescribing medications and following controlled substance protocols Promote teamwork and staff efficiency across the hospital Collaborate with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations Evaluate and monitor protocols for daily hospital operations from intake to discharge Monitor cases and attend daily rounds when possible to ensure highest standards are maintained Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels Perform other duties as assigned by management Qualifications (Required) Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university One-year rotational internship in small animal medicine, surgery, or emergency/critical care (university or large referral practice) Completed a 3-year, AVMA-approved residency program Current State veterinary license DEA registration obtained and maintained Strong diagnostic and clinical skills Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills Commitment to compassionate, high-quality veterinary care Effective communication with all members of the medical and hospital staff Client communication skills, including eliciting information, establishing rapport, and offering clear explanations to pet owners Confidence and reassurance when dealing with stressed, ill, or painful pets Physical capability for tasks such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds Preferred Skills (Nice to Have) Board Certification 2–5 years of post-residency experience Demonstrated clinical knowledge and skill in examining and assessing animals across a broad range of systems Problem‑solving ability to develop solutions for high-quality hospital management challenges Effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and internal staff Professionalism and constructive feedback in a collaborative team environment Business acumen to understand management and finances of the veterinary hospital practice Ethical understanding and application of guiding principles in patient care decisions Commitment to continuing education and facilitation of learning for others Pay Range

$150,000 — $275,000 USD
