Equine Sports Medicine Specialist - Brandon Equine Medical Center

Position Overview We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Sports Medicine/Lameness Veterinarian to join our team at Brandon Equine Medical Center in Brandon, Florida. The ideal candidate will provide high‑quality equine medical and surgical care, perform comprehensive lameness evaluations, and be proficient in advanced ultrasonography, including detailed imaging of joints and soft tissue structures. The role requires interpreting advanced diagnostic imaging modalities and using non‑steroidal biologic therapies such as IRAP, PRP, Pro‑Stride, and other regenerative medicine treatments. Key Responsibilities Comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups Client communication and education Perform diagnostic procedures and surgery Maintain accurate medical records Pharmacy duties, including prescribing medications and following controlled substance protocols Promote teamwork and staff efficiency Work with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations Evaluate and monitor protocols for daily hospital operations from intake to discharge Monitor cases and attend daily rounds to ensure highest standards are upheld Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels Perform other duties as assigned by Management Applicants must be willing to complete a 23‑day on‑site working interview as part of the hiring process Qualifications (Required) Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university Current State Veterinary License DEA registration obtained and maintained 1+ years of experience in a veterinary practice Strong diagnostic and clinical skills Excellent surgical and dental skills Ability to work well in a team‑oriented environment Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills Commitment to providing compassionate and high‑quality veterinary care Effective communication with all members of the Medical and Hospital staff Client communication skills, including eliciting information, establishing rapport, and offering explanations to pet owners Confidence and reassurance when dealing with pets experiencing severe stress, illness, or pain May involve climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling Moderate physically demanding work may be required Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Preferred Skills (Nice to Have) Advanced training or Board Certification in Sports Medicine or Surgery Certification through the International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology (ISELP) Formal certification in chiropractic care or spinal manipulation therapy Clinical knowledge and skill in examining and assessing animals, including cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological, and other necessary examinations Problem‑solving abilities to develop solutions related to high‑quality veterinary hospital management Effective communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and internal staff Professionalism in a high‑quality, professional veterinary team, with ability to provide and receive constructive criticism, suggestions, and feedback Business acumen, understanding of management and finances of a veterinary hospital practice Ethical understanding of principles guiding patient decisions Commitment to continuing education and facilitating learning for others Benefits Signing, retention and relocation packages up to $75,000 Medical, dental, and vision insurance Competitive salary and Production Bonus – no negative accrual option available Paid Parental Leave (birth, adoption, foster) 401(k) with discretionary contribution Team Member Pet Discounts Emotional wellbeing support – including Calm app access and 24/7 EAP CE stipends and career development resources Grant Circle – a relief fund for team members facing personal hardship Local hospital culture backed by national resources Pay Range $100,000 — $145,000 USD Contact For questions or to submit your resume, email Emily Lunsford at View email address on click.appcast.io .
