Exciting Opportunity for a Pathologists Assistant!

Job Description:


Join our dynamic team as a Pathologists Assistant and become an integral part of our surgical pathology department! Here, you will:

- Assist in the preparation and performance of gross examination and dissection of surgical specimens.
- Work under the supervision of a pathologist to describe gross anatomic features and dissect surgical specimens.
- Prepare tissue sections for microscopic examination, including frozen sections and permanent sections with photographic documentation.
- Ensure the appropriate specimen accessioning and labeling of surgical pathology specimens.
- Obtain case histories and laboratory data from clinical records when needed.
- Code gross specimens during descriptions for accurate reporting.
- Organize and coordinate anatomic pathology grossing for all specimens at our grossing tables.
- Utilize and update Voice Recognition templates as needed, troubleshooting any issues that arise.
- Assist in preparing, staining, and cover slipping samples for frozen sections.
- Manage inventory of designated gross room supplies effectively.
- Demonstrate safe use of laboratory equipment like grossing tables and cryostats.
- Prepare specimens for histology and assist in post mortem examinations when required.
- Accurately enter information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and manage cassette downloads.
- Identify appropriate samples for decalcification and ensure they are submitted adequately decalcified.
- Support the continuous updating of the Gross Room Manual.
- Maintain open communication with pathologists and histology laboratory staff.
- Carry out other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements:


- New York State license required.
- B.S. Degree in Biology or a related science with certification from a Pathologists Assistant Program or equivalent.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience preferred.
- ASCP certification is preferred.

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment:


- Exposure to chemicals necessary for tasks; access to Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Work operates in a professional office environment using standard office equipment.
- Capability to operate laboratory equipment effectively.
- Ability to greet and direct staff, visitors, and callers.
- Remain stationary for extended periods and move about the office frequently.
