Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)

Stars School is seeking a skilled and collaborative Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) with Orton-Gillingham training to join our multidisciplinary team. Stars School serves students with dyslexia, language-based learning disabilities (LBLD), and related learning needs in a highly supportive, structured academic environment.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the relationship between oral language, phonological processing, reading, writing, and academic achievement. The SLP will provide direct speech and language services while also collaborating with classroom teachers and Orton-Gillingham practitioners to ensure that language instruction is integrated throughout the school day.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provide individual and small-group speech and language therapy in accordance with students' IEPs.
• Evaluate students' receptive, expressive, and pragmatic language skills and contribute to comprehensive educational evaluations.
• Develop measurable IEP goals and objectives based on assessment data and student needs.
• Provide intervention targeting areas such as:
• Receptive and expressive language
• Vocabulary development
• Word retrieval
• Oral language organization
• Auditory processing and comprehension
• Phonological and phonemic awareness
• Morphology and syntax
• Narrative language
• Written language development
• Social/pragmatic communication, when appropriate
• Utilize knowledge of Orton-Gillingham and structured literacy principles to reinforce phonological awareness, decoding, encoding, morphology, vocabulary, and language comprehension.
• Collaborate closely with Orton-Gillingham teachers to support consistency between speech-language therapy and literacy instruction.
• Provide classroom-based consultation and push-in support when appropriate.
• Work collaboratively with special education teachers, reading specialists, occupational therapists, paraprofessionals, administrators, families, and outside providers.
• Participate in IEP meetings, progress meetings, team meetings, and parent conferences.
• Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction and intervention accordingly.
• Prepare progress reports and maintain accurate documentation in accordance with state, federal, and school requirements.
• Provide teachers with strategies and accommodations that support students' language development throughout the academic day.
• Assist the school in identifying language-based barriers that may affect reading comprehension, written expression, mathematics, executive functioning, and classroom participation.
• Participate in professional development and contribute to the continued development of Stars School's language-based instructional model.

Qualifications

• Required:
• Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders.
• Current Massachusetts licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist or eligibility for appropriate licensure.
• Experience working with school-age students.
• Training or experience in Orton-Gillingham, structured literacy, or another evidence-based multisensory reading approach.
• Strong knowledge of language-based learning disabilities and the connection between spoken and written language.
• Strong communication, organizational, and collaborative skills.
• Preferred:
• Orton-Gillingham Associate, Certified, or higher-level credential.
• Experience working with students with dyslexia and language-based learning disabilities.
• Experience in a special education or Chapter 766 school.
• Knowledge of phonological processing, morphology, written language, and structured literacy.
• Experience collaborating with reading specialists and special educators.
• Familiarity with Massachusetts IEP requirements and special education regulations.
