The principal supervisor has a significant impact on both school operational outcomes and on improving student learning outcomes, closing achievement and learning gaps, and achieving the district’s student learning goals. The incumbent works with principals on leadership, specifically instructional, by coaching them through analyzing data, providing feedback, observing classroom teachers and other staff, and creating professional learning communities to support and advance the growth and knowledge of principals. The appointed leader works with community stakeholders and agencies to build partnerships to enhance the educational goals of the district. This position reports to Chief Academic Officer (Implementation). KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises, monitors, and provides feedback to administrators on implementing the curriculum and research‑based instructional strategies used according to district guidelines and protocols. Coaches and mentors principals to build their capacity to be effective instructional leaders. Uses the working knowledge of effective instruction in establishing school processes and routines that engage teachers and staff in regular monitoring of student progress and evaluation, adaptation, and improvement of instructional strategies that meet student needs. Leads capacity development for cluster principals by providing or brokering effective professional development in the areas of student and program assessment, data analysis, program development and evaluation, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning and curriculum implementation in collaboration with appropriate district departments. Supervises assigned principals relative to duties and responsibilities outlined in the job description, including, but not limited to, budget development and management, facility appearance, maintenance and utilization. Conducts building inspections and classroom visitations to assess educational and operational effectiveness and assist school administrators through feedback to establish and maintain a positive and effective educational environment. Monitors student enrollment, staff and student attendance, school‑level allotments, discipline, performance evaluations, formative and summative assessment schedules and results, and other school reports for accuracy, compliance, established timelines, and improvement objectives with appropriate district leadership. Researches with staff to respond to inquiries received from school and stakeholders concerning building‑level issues relative to Board Policies, Administrative Rules, Norms, and Assumptions of the District. Provides process leadership and ensures school and district compliance with the Georgia School Council Law. Provides active collaborative participation as a member of the district’s Leadership Team and conducts other duties as assigned by the supervisor. KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree in an education‑related field (curriculum, instruction, content area, and/or school leadership) required. Doctorate preferred. Minimum of seven (7) years of principalship with at least three (3) years of management and supervisory responsibility at the grade band for the position. Georgia Professional Certification at a Level 5 or higher in Education Leadership. Proven ability to work under pressure and coordinate within all levels of District management. Highly complex decision making required. Supervisor is available to review established departmental and/or organizational objectives. Independent judgment is required to recommend departmental and/or organizational objectives. Effectively implementing plans throughout the department; accelerating the pace of change and using innovative ideas. Requires regular contact with internal personnel of importance and influence.
