Must be able to live on-campus and be available for on-call responsibilities.Job CategoryExemptPay BasisAnnuallyEssential Job FunctionsPlans, directs, and coordinates work activities of assigned support staff, including hiring, coaching, and training all in accordance with university policies and procedures.Community Development and Educational Curriculum:Provides personal assistance to students through advising, counseling, discipline, and crisis intervention.Provides leadership to staff and students in the development of a community environment.Facilitates the educational curriculum for the graduate residential students.Assists students with issues typical to graduate developmental levels.Maintains a high level of visibility by making every effort to get to know residents in the area and attending resident and staff activities.Supports and acts as a resource to the Resident Student Association.Ensures that the needs of residents, including those of minorities and special interest groups are assessed and that programs are initiated to meet those needs.Ensures that community development records are maintained including hall assessments, resources, expenses, participation, etc. for future use by staff and student leaders.Policy Enforcement & Duty Coverage:Encourages self-discipline, self-government, and respect for individual rights among residents; encourage individual assertiveness.Clearly communicates Residential Life policy to staff and residents.Assists RAs and GAs in confronting residents who violate policies.Manages the educational discipline process for the graduate apartments.Conducts disciplinary conferences and apply sanctions when appropriate.Assists with weekday, weekend, evening, and vacation duty coverage of campus.Staff Development:Supervises undergraduate student staff.Assists with the marketing, recruitment, and selection process of Residential Advisors.Assists with the Resident Advisor training program.Assists with the Staff Evaluation program.Acts as a liaison to other campus departments for the Office of Residential Life.Represents the Office of Residential Life and the Division of Student Affairs on University Committees and participate fully in professional activities.Departmental Communication and Decision-Making:Plans and holds weekly community staff meetings.Serves on and chairs Residential Life committees as assigned by the Director of Residential Life.Provides input to decisions regarding policies, procedures, and programs.Keeps professional staff informed about critical issues and concerns in the area.Establishes continuous communication with other Residential Life staff and University staff.Administration:Coordinates the administrative functions in the area, including preparation of weekly reports, key inventories, and timely completion of forms and correspondence.Assists with check-in, check-out of all residents and coordinates/cooperates on all tasks related to assignment of rooms.Assesses the success of Residential Life programs and research/benchmark for the Office.Completes other projects as assigned.Performs other duties as assigned or required.Job RequirementsRequired Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:Knowledge:Advanced MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel).Customer and Personal Service - General knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.Psychology - General knowledge of human behavior and performance, individual differences in ability, personality, and interests.Personnel and Human Resources – General knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, and training.Skills:Coordination - Proficient skills in adjusting actions in relation to others' actions.Management of Personnel Resources – Proficient skills in motivating, developing, and directing people as they work, identifying the best people for the job.Time Management - Proficient skills in managing one's own time and the time of others.Active Listening – Proficient skills in giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.Speaking - Proficient skills in talking to others to convey information effectively.Critical Thinking - Proficient skills in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.Judgment and Decision Making - Proficient skills in considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the appropriate one.Abilities:Originality - The ability to come up with innovative ideas about a given topic or situation, or to develop creative ways to solve a problem.Problem Sensitivity - The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. Bachelor's degree and minimum four (4) years' experience working in higher education, -OR-Master's degree and minimum two (2) years' experience working in higher education. 2.
