Since forming the nation's first full‑time department of gastroenterology in 1927, our physicians have continually improved treatments for digestive tract and related disorders by combining medical research, education, and patient care at the highest level. Job Summary The Advanced Practice Provider reports to the manager of the gastroenterology advanced practice program and the chief of the Section of Gastroenterology and/or assigned Supervising Physician(s), Section Administration and attending physicians assigned (monthly) to the service. Responsibilities Provides comprehensive care to both outpatients and inpatients within Gastroenterology practices, working within the Practice Guideline. Works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, using advanced clinical skills to manage a caseload of patients as an independent healthcare provider. Conducts assessment, diagnosis, initiation of delegated medical treatments, independent nursing interventions and evaluation of care, in addition to certain diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures. Provides a model of care that is shaped by theory, expanded by science, research and reflective practice, and is identified by a holistic and comprehensive approach to the patients. Develops diagnostic strategies and therapeutic interventions needed to achieve the goals and outcomes of the patient’s plan of care. Evaluates goals and outcomes taking into account the benefits versus burden, safety, quality, and cost‑effectiveness for the patient, family and the organization. Performs other related work as needed. Minimum Qualifications Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree from an accredited school/college. Work Experience: Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through a combination of education and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in a related job discipline. Certifications: Current and/or eligible for State of Illinois licensure/registration required. Eligibility to be privileged and credentialed through the Medical Staff Office (MSO). State of Illinois. Preferred Qualifications Education: Advanced degree. Certifications: Once licensed and as needed, apply for a mid‑level practitioner controlled substance license and DEA number. Willing to be privileged and credentialed through UCM Medical Staff Office prior to start date. Enter into written collaborative agreement with a collaborating physician upon hire. Preferred Competencies: Demonstrated clinical competency, effective leadership and teaching skills required. Ability to conduct physical examinations and health assessments required. Ability to interview and obtain medical information required. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently required. Strong organizational skills required.
