General Manager Job DescriptionThe General Manager is responsible for directing and coordinating all plant activities to achieve optimum efficiency, economy of operations, and maximized profits. This role involves directly performing essential duties or overseeing subordinate supervisors in their execution.Essential Duties And Responsibilities:Planning:Develop and implement annual Profit Plans with detailed action plans and follow-up procedures.Review plans and provide monthly Variance Reports.Monitor the external business and economic environment for potential impacts.Participate in long-range strategic planning.Policies:Exercise general supervision and assume responsibility for the administration of all Company policies and programs within the plant.Values, Climate, and Image:Promote the Company's image as a competent, professional, reputable, and ethical organization.Foster a climate for personal growth and achievement, enabling employees to be innovative and effective.Delegate responsibility and commensurate authority to all key subordinate supervisors.Sales:Drive profitable growth: Secure new business and expand market share.Lead and empower the sales team: Set targets, coach, and foster a high-performance culture.Optimize inventory for sales: Monitor stock to ensure product availability and minimize waste.Strategic pricing: Effectively price new items for market competitiveness and profitability.Human Resources:Provide for and participate in the training and development of all personnel.Participate in and monitor all labor relations, safety initiatives, employee communications programs, recreation, employee benefits, and awards programs.Maintain effective position descriptions and Standards of Performance.Ensure all key positions are properly staffed and the plant is adequately manned to meet plans and goals.Assure all employee performance is reviewed on an annual basis or as required.Financial:Review and control operating costs and expenses on a timely basis.Analyze and evaluate all financial reports, recommending or taking necessary steps to ensure adequate control.Recommend and justify all capital expenditures and implement upon approval.Monitor all inventory levels and maintain as directed.Exceptional customer engagement: Provide high-level service and build lasting customer relationships.Manufacturing:Monitor all facilities and equipment and ensure they are properly maintained and protected.Ensure all production efficiencies, waste, quality, and costs are within planned guidelines, taking necessary steps as needed.Ensure proper planning of requirements for all raw materials and supplies consistent with Company policy.Monitor manufacturing schedules based on sales requirements and plant capacity.Recommend and justify equipment, methods, and facilities to maintain and improve our competitive position.Ensure all safety practices and policies are followed, all machinery is properly safeguarded, and the plant maintains a safe working environment.Governmental and Legal Compliance:Assure compliance with E.E.O.C., E.P.A., O.S.H.A., F.D.A., Anti-Trust, and other applicable laws and regulations.Education And Experience:Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.Requirements:Commitment to Safety: Must be able to identify safety improvement opportunities.Excellent verbal and written communication skills: General ability to express ideas and concepts clearly and concisely in written and oral form.Superior project management and organizational skills.Demonstrated ability to excel with minimum supervision.Analytical and conceptual skills to think and plan strategically.Desire to aggressively learn and continue to develop knowledge and skills.Preferred Requirements:Five or more years of experience in the corrugated industry.
