Diesel Mechanic
Abacus is looking to hire a diesel mechanic in the Beltsville, MD area.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Technical excellence: Diagnose and repair engines, electrical systems, and hydraulic components.
- Independence: Troubleshoot issues independently, often with minimal diagnostic tools.
- Maintenance: Perform preventative maintenance, including oil changes, brake inspections, and fluid checks.
- Compliance: Ensure DOT compliance with thorough inspections and accurate documentation.
- Response: Respond quickly to driver-reported issues to minimize downtime.
- Heavy repair: Perform or assist with engine rebuilds and dumpster repairs (including welding).
- Leadership track: Collaborate with ownership to improve maintenance workflows and safety protocols.
What We're Looking For
- Experience: 5+ years of diesel maintenance experience (technical school training is a plus).
- Skills: Strong understanding of hydraulics, brakes, electrical systems, and engine diagnostics.
- Tools: Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Licensing: Valid driver's license and medical card required; CDL is a plus.
- Physical: Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work in all weather conditions, and stand for long periods.
- Mindset: A "lead-by-example" attitude with a desire to transition into management.
Schedule
- Typical week: 4550 hours per week (overtime pay included).
- Availability: Includes some weekends and travel; on-call for emergency maintenance needs.
