Job Title: 1st Shift CNC Mill Machinist Job Description

This role focuses on operating Haas CNC mills to machine details from plate or flat stock according to blueprints, holding exact dimensions and producing components of various shapes and materials. You will work with 3- and 4-axis mills and 3-axis lathes with live tooling, using Fanuc and Haas controls with G&M code to perform precision machining operations in a modern, well-equipped facility.

• Read and interpret engineering blueprints to determine machining requirements, dimensions, and tolerances.
• Set up Haas CNC mills, including downloading programs, selecting and installing tooling, offsetting parts, and fixturing workpieces securely.
• Operate 3-axis mills and support machining on 4-axis mills and 3-axis lathes with live tooling as needed.
• Machine materials to specification, ensuring parts are produced to print and meet quality standards.
• Use Fanuc and Haas controllers to run programs, edit G&M code, and make necessary adjustments for optimal performance and accuracy.
• Read and use digital micrometers, calipers, and other measuring tools to verify dimensions and maintain tight tolerances.
• Sharpen cutting tools and maintain tooling condition to support efficient and precise machining.
• Perform own setups for new and repeat jobs, including program download, tooling selection, and fixture setup.
• Use an overhead crane safely to move and position materials and workpieces when required.
• Work with a variety of machining operations such as turning, boring, threading, drilling, reaming, milling flats and grooves, and similar processes.
• Handle multiple materials including stainless steel, aluminum, brass, steel, and hardened steel while adjusting machining parameters appropriately.
• Monitor machine performance, identify issues, and make program or setup edits to improve quality and efficiency.
• Follow established shop procedures and quality standards to ensure consistent, reliable production.
• Collaborate with team members and communicate clearly about job status, issues, and improvement opportunities.

• Minimum of 3 years of experience operating 3-axis CNC mills.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints for machining operations.
• Strong ability to read digital micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring tools.
• Hands-on experience with Haas CNC mills and familiarity with Haas controllers.
• Experience using Fanuc controls and working with G&M code for program operation and edits.
• Ability to operate and edit CNC programs, including making minor changes to G&M code to improve part quality or cycle time.
• Capability to perform machine setup, including downloading programs, selecting tooling, offsetting parts, fixturing workpieces, and verifying setup accuracy.
• Knowledge of machining a variety of materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, brass, steel, and hardened steel.
• Understanding of common machining operations including turning, boring, threading, drilling, reaming, and milling flats and grooves.
• Competence in using an overhead crane safely to move materials and workpieces when required.
• Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining dimensional accuracy and quality standards.

• Long-term job tenure of 7 or more years in machining or related roles is highly valued.
• Experience with 4-axis mills and 3-axis lathes with live tooling is a plus.
• Familiarity with new shop environments and modern equipment is beneficial.
• Comfort working with both Haas and Fanuc control systems and understanding their similarities in G&M code usage.
• Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose machining issues and adjust programs or setups.
• Ability to work independently on setups and production runs while maintaining consistent output.
• Solid understanding of quality control practices in a CNC machining environment.

The role is based in a clean shop built in 2018, featuring new equipment and a modern layout designed for efficient CNC machining. You will work on Haas mills and lathes using Fanuc and Haas controls with G&M code, supported by provided measuring tools and equipment. The facility includes multiple cafes and a workout room, offering convenient options for breaks and wellness. Work is performed on 1st shift in an organized, professional production environment that emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and access to up-to-date technology.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Auburn Hills, MI.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
