The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing day-to-day follow-ups with patients for upcoming appointments to determine insurance coverage, patient costs, and payment options. Print routing sheets and document estimated costs in the practice management system and the pre-service estimation worksheet. Place phone calls to patients to obtain pre-payment, establish acceptable payment arrangements, and/or acquire information necessary to receive payment from insurance or other sources on all procedures/surgeries. Notify the Billing Manager when appropriate financial arrangements per the patient liability policy cannot be made before the patient is treated for services. Adhere to best practice standards in performing day-to-day follow-up This includes the following procedures outlined in the Patient Liability Policies. Process credit card transactions and patient receipts and check payments received at The responsibilities listed are a general overview of the position, and additional duties may be assigned under the direction of the Billing Supervisor and Billing Manager Education, Training, and Experience High School graduate or equivalent 1+ years of experience handling physician financial counselor duties or working for Tennessee Minimum of one year of insurance verification experience with knowledge of CPT and HCPCS coding Experience reading and understanding payer eligibility electronic returns. Includes the ability to differentiate between insurance plans, copay, deductible, and coinsurance (patient responsibility). Experience speaking with patients regarding the amounts due before and after scheduled appointments. Includes negotiating pre-service deposit, copay, deductible, and coinsurance amounts. Proficient in understanding, reading, and interpreting all contents of the paper and electronic medical charts (ERM) and knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to learn and adapt quickly to new software. Effective verbal and written communication skills with patients, physicians, management, and employees Excellent Organizational skills, multi-task, and logical thinking Ability to be proactive, take initiative, and perform well in a fast-paced, high-volume practice. Basic understanding of eye anatomy, medical terminology, ocular pathology, and eye diseases. Confidentiality Maintains strict confidentiality regarding protected health information (PHI) and understands and adheres to TNR’s HIPAA privacy and security policies and procedures. Typical Physical and Working Demands Position requires consistent physical activity, including prolonged walking, sitting, bending, stooping, and stretching. Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination are essential for operating a keyboard, telephone, photocopier, and specialized optical equipment. Requires the ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull heavy items, including optical devices weighing 15 pounds or more.
