Assistant Principal

Minimum Qualifications Education: Master’s degree with valid Indiana Administrator’s license or eligible to receive an Indiana Administrator’s license or permit. Experience: Two (2) or more years of teaching experience at the appropriate level. Assist in the achievement of the short and long-term educational goals of the school corporation. Serve as an instructional leader of the building. Develop with the Director of Guidance recommendations to the Principal utilizing a broad base of available professional expertise to assist students who are encountering problems. Assess causes and effects of practices in the school which appear to be closely associated with student problems. Recommend to the Principal ways to minimize student performance problems. Work with appropriate staff members, students, parents and the community to help students prevent having attendance and/or discipline problems. Assist the Principal in observing, conferring, and evaluating teachers. Receive student discipline problems referred by teachers. Arrange and conduct conferences including all or part of the following parties:parents, students, teachers, counselors, and administrators. Maintain and/or supervise the keeping of accurate records of all referrals and the disposition of each. Provide feedback to teachers regarding the action taken with referrals. Maintain and/or supervise the keeping of accurate attendance and tardy records for all students. Contact parents of students who are truant. Determine the eligibility of students for legitimate absences. Make referrals to appropriate community agencies when advisable. Attend extracurricular activities as assigned by the Principal. Represent the school at community functions as assigned by the Principal. Submit recommendations for the improvement of the total school program. Coordinate the selection of students to represent the school in community affairs. Perform student health and safety related tasks necessary for a particular student or students including, but not limited to, health care services related to students with diabetes, basic life support, therapeutic, and sanitary service, and taking other actions reasonably necessary to prevent harm or injury to a student as determined by the student’s Individual Health Plan (IHP), Individual Education Plan (IEP), or 504 Plan.
