Overview Position: Phlebotomist 3001 Location: Baytown, TX and area. Float job. Baytown is home base. Floating to: Lake City, Texas City, Clear Lake, Baytown. Schedule: 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM, Monday to Friday. Hours vary but must be available. Employment type: Contract to hire; potential for permanent. Projected duration: 3 months + potential for permanent. Job code: CVDJP00033001 Benefits: available. Requires a clean driving record. Minimum experience: 3 years. Note: Phlebotomy on all types of patients. Hospital experience is a plus. Summary The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot, training and making work flow recommendations. Responsibilities Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc. Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures. Explain clearly the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods (e.g., urine) as required. Demonstrate technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understand all physician orders. Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order. Check test requisitions or computer labels for accuracy (100%). Package specimens for transport and store according to required temperature; label and follow protocol to maintain specimen integrity. Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attend annual department trainings. Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results as needed. Minimum Qualifications Valid phlebotomy certification for the state where employed (as required). Minimum of 6 months’ experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or GED. Must have minimum 3 years of experience (note: stated in original description).
