Job Summary and Responsibilities As our OB Nurse at CHI St. Alexius Health Williston, you’ll guide patients through labor and childbirth, focusing on the safety of the mother and baby with kindness and compassion. As a nurse in this department, you will have varying roles and responsibilities. You may triage patients or perform screening exams on walk‑ins, guide patients through routine induction and delivery, monitor the mother’s dilation progress while also keeping a close watch on the baby’s fetal heart rate, coach mom during delivery, and provide updates and support to the patient’s partner and loved ones. To thrive in this role, you’ll need to appreciate that routine is never routine. You must be sensitive and understanding of different circumstances, remain calm in emergencies, and handle changing patient status without panic. Assesses antepartal, intrapartal, and postpartal patients for risk factors, normal progress, symptoms of problems, and continuously monitors; detects changes in symptoms, health or pain, and takes action as necessary; and quickly and accurately assesses patient care needs. Responds to life‑saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol. Sets priorities in the plan of care based on assessed needs and anticipates personnel, supplies, and equipment required to care for patients. Works collaboratively with the provider to provide exceptional care. Administers medications, IV therapy, and treatments in compliance with policies and procedures.
