GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Registration/Cashier is responsible for collecting and maintaining insurance information and pertinent data from all clients before receiving care at the Health & Wellness Center. Receives cash or payments. Maintains current profile sheets in the computer systems.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

All employees of Stockbridge Munsee Community must meet the following qualifications:

• Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and health screening.
• Must be at least 18 years of age, unless otherwise stated on the job description
• Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record
• Must be able to work weekends, nights, and holidays
• Must obtain and maintain Elder/Youth License as stated on job description.

DUTIES:

• Answer all telephone calls.
• Obtain required current client information for the medical record and client registration system.
• Completes data entry of client information into the computer system.
• Receive all clients' cash and checks for the health center's accounts.
• Enter and print client receipts from E.H.R. system.
• Notify the patient account specialist, or Business Office Manager when receiving payment from delinquent payers.
• Refer the client with questions concerning accounts and insurance to the Business Office Manager.
• Must maintain an acceptable departmental attendance record.
• Must be reliable and prompt when reporting to work.
• Required to attend job-related, in-service, meetings, and training to maintain professional and technical knowledge.
• Must adhere to tribal law and other applicable laws, as well as tribal personnel policies and procedures.
• May be required to satisfactorily complete an exam or other testing requirement(s) to determine skill proficiency.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must have a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Working knowledge of computers, word processing, and spreadsheet applications is required.
• Knowledge of Indian Health Services eligibility criteria is preferred.
• Previous clinic registration experience is preferred.
• Completed medical terminology courses are preferred.
• Must be able to work under pressure and deal with clients and co-workers in a prompt, courteous, and cooperative manner.
• One-year work experience in account receivables is preferred.
• Knowledge of private insurance, Medical Assistance, and Medicare benefits preferred.
• Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
• Must obtain an elder/youth license.
• Must be willing to attend all applicable training.
• Must pass pre-employment drug and health screening. Must adhere to the Tribe's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy during the course of employment.
• Must be eligible for coverage under the employer's liability insurance.
• Must have demonstrated ability to maintain a satisfactory working record in any prior or current employment.
• Must be able to meet physical requirements of position.
• Must abide by departmental and organizational safety, testing, and uniform guidelines.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• This position requires a lot of sitting with occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
• Evening and/or weekend is required. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
• Work environment requires excellent personal hygiene due to working in close proximity to others and in an enclosed area.
• A Tuberculosis (TB) Screening and/or TB Skin Test may be required.
