This includes cost variance analysis and cost management during the life cycle of each home to ensure accurate lot costs.Overview & Position SummaryThis position supports cost accounting activities to ensure accurate product costing, inventory valuation, and financial analysis. This role works under moderate supervision to analyze cost data, support reporting requirements, and assist with variance analysis that impacts operational and financial decision-making. It collaborates with accounting, operations, and finance teams to ensure cost information is accurate, consistent, and aligned with established accounting standards.Primary ResponsibilitiesPrepare and maintain cost accounting records, schedules, and supporting documentationAnalyze material, labor, and overhead costs to identify variances and trendsSupport inventory valuation and cost allocation processes in accordance with accounting standardsAssist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities related to cost accountingInvestigate cost variances and discrepancies through analysis and collaboration with internal partnersEnsure cost data accuracy and compliance with accounting policies and internal controlsCommunicate cost-related findings and explanations to internal stakeholders as neededSupport audits by preparing cost accounting documentation and responding to inquiriesProvide guidance or assistance to entry-level staff or support employees as appropriateEducation & ExperienceRequired:Minimum 2 years of relevant cost accounting, accounting, or finance experience, or equivalent (e.g., 6–8 years)Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related fieldExperience performing cost analysis, inventory accounting, or financial data reviewAbility to provide informal guidance or assistance to others within a team environmentPreferred:Additional experience in cost accounting within manufacturing, construction, or project-based environmentsKnowledge of cost accounting principles, inventory valuation methods, and variance analysisExperience using ERP systems, cost accounting modules, and spreadsheet applicationsSkills & CompetenciesBroad knowledge of cost accounting principles and financial analysis techniquesStrong analytical and problem-solving skills for evaluating cost data and variancesHigh attention to detail and accuracy in financial documentation and reportingEffective communication skills for explaining cost information and analysisAbility to manage multiple priorities and deadlines under moderate supervisionProficiency with ERP systems, accounting software, and spreadsheet toolsAbility to interpret and apply accounting policies and proceduresStrong organizational and documentation skillsAbility to collaborate effectively with cross-functional partnersWorking ConditionsWork is primarily performed in a general office environment with standard business hours.
