Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center Department: Retinology Clinic Position is located: 925 Union Street Work Type: Full Time Hours Per Week: 36.00 Work Schedule: 6:45 AM to 5:15 PMSalary Range : $19.00 - $26.64 Exempt: No Summary : Perform technical work-up and ophthalmic procedures; interview patients; prepare charts for clinic visits as well as preparatory paperwork for surgical procedures. Brief list of duties include, but not limited to Initial patient work-up, perform patient testing as directed by physician: tonometry, fundus photography, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), obtain and document patient history, assist physician in all aspects of vision evaluation and treatment performing vision check, basic history, medication review, administering drops, etc., and provide patient education/instruction (e.g. pre and post op surgical instructions, testing, medications, lid hygiene, drop technique, etc) as appropriate. Responsibilities :
- Greeting customers, patients and co-workers with a friendly smile and using AIDET when appropriate (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank You).
- Listens carefully and avoids interruptions in interactions with both patients and co-workers.

- Practices appropriate hand hygiene policies.

- Able to scribe for physican, writing legibly and spelling medical terms correctly.
- Keeps Certified Ophthalmic Assistant certification up to date.
- Efficiently and accurately interviews patients and documents history .
- Able to perform preparatory paperwork for surgical patients including scheduling office and surgical appointments.
- Able to prep charts (EMR) to include running an updated schedule, placing proper paperwork in each chart and making proper notations on paperwork regarding patient's next visit.
- Able to assist with procedures, using sterile technique to prep patient and taking vitals when appropriate.
- Provides excellent customer service, both for internal and/or external customers.
- Responds to communications (phone calls, voice mail messages, and emails) in a timely manner.
- Consistent and reliable attendance, including communication and attempts to find coverage when legitimate issues prevent or inhibit attendance.
- Ability to perform technical work-ups, patient interviews which include accurately performing (after documented training), lensometry, tonometry, amsler grid, pupil exams, visual acuity, ophthalmic history and general history.
- Able to perform the following ophthalmic diagnostic tests (after documented training): Fundus Photography, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), and Visual Field.
- Assist with laser procedures to include taking patient's vital signs, filling out laser paperwork, preparing patient for laser procedure and assisting physician with positioning as necessary.
- Seeks out ways to reduce operating costs or increase efficiency within role/department.

- Manages hours effectively and checks API daily, working with supervisor to get rid of any overtime.
