Production Welder / Fabricator

This is a hands-on lead-level opportunity for an experienced welder/fabricator who takes pride in producing high-quality welds and enjoys coaching, mentoring, and developing less-experienced welders . You will spend the majority of your time welding and fabricating while serving as a technical resource and quality leader for junior members of the team.

You’ll fabricate, assemble, repair, and remanufacture industrial lifting magnets and related components using a variety of welding, fabrication, and machining equipment. You will interpret blueprints and drawings, determine the appropriate welding and fabrication methods, and ensure finished work meets AWS standards, project specifications, and Crane 1 quality expectations.

Pay: $30–$35/hr

Welder/Fabricator Responsibilities

Welding & Fabrication

• Weld carbon, manganese, and stainless steel components using SMAW (Stick) and FCAW (Flux Core) processes in accordance with applicable AWS standards and specifications.
• Fabricate, assemble, repair, and remanufacture industrial lifting magnets and related components.
• Perform weld repairs on components made from various types and grades of steel.
• Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, weld symbols, work orders, and other written instructions.
• Perform material layout, fit-up, cutting, preparation, welding, grinding, and finishing.
• Cut and prepare materials using plasma arc, oxy-fuel torch, grinders, and other appropriate equipment.
• Determine appropriate welding methods, sequence, fit-up, and techniques based on project requirements.
• Inspect completed welds for proper penetration, appearance, dimensions, and overall quality.
• Complete required quality-control documentation and inspection records.
• Identify potential quality issues and take corrective action before work progresses to the next stage.

Lead & Mentor Junior Welders

• Serve as a hands-on technical resource and mentor for junior and less-experienced welders.
• Demonstrate proper welding, fit-up, fabrication, grinding, and finishing techniques.
• Review junior welders' work and provide constructive feedback to improve weld quality, consistency, and productivity.
• Help junior welders understand and follow AWS requirements, welding procedures, drawings, specifications, and company quality standards .
• Identify recurring welding or fabrication issues and work with team members to determine appropriate solutions.
• Reinforce proper welding practices, safe work habits, housekeeping, and use of PPE.
• Help establish a culture where quality is built into the process rather than inspected in at the end.
• Assist leadership with identifying training opportunities and areas where additional coaching may be needed.
• Lead by example through strong workmanship, reliability, professionalism, and attention to detail.

Shop & Production Support

• Review work orders and gather the appropriate materials, tools, and equipment required for each project.
• Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment safely when qualified.
• Safely use a wide range of hand, power, commercial, and industrial tools.
• Evaluate work processes and make recommendations to improve productivity, weld quality, safety, and efficiency .
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable OSHA requirements.
• Assist with painting or other shop functions as needed.
• Be willing to learn and perform additional fabrication and production tasks.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Welder/Fabricator Qualifications

Experience

• Minimum 3-5 years of structural steel fabrication and production welding experience preferred.
• Demonstrated experience welding and fabricating components using SMAW (Stick) and FCAW (Flux Core) .
• Experience welding carbon, manganese, stainless, and other grades of steel.
• Experience performing weld repairs and working to AWS Code requirements and company specifications.
• Prior experience training, mentoring, guiding, or informally leading junior welders strongly preferred.
• Ability to recognize welding defects and understand appropriate corrective actions.
• Experience reading blueprints, fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and work orders.
• Experience with overhead cranes and forklifts preferred.
