About the Job:

Reporting to our Regulatory Services Manager, as the Compliance Officer at Independent Bank you will play a key, visible role in protecting and advancing our organization. We're looking for an organized, confident professional with strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills who thrives in a dynamic, collaborative environment. In this role, you'll proactively assess, manage, and mitigate regulatory risks that impact Independent Bank and its affiliates, helping shape how we grow responsibly. You'll work closely with senior management, product and business line leaders, regulators, lenders, and operations teams, making this a highly interactive position with broad influence across the organization.

What You Will Do:

• Perform or facilitate compliance risk assessments.
• Provide guidance on regulatory issues and implementation of regulatory changes, ensuring the Bank meets effective dates and established timelines.
• Oversee and facilitate project and implementation plans to adequately and efficiently comply with new or amended regulations or laws. This includes conducting GAP analyses.
• Work with business lines to integrate regulatory or legal requirements into policies, procedures, processes, controls, and training.
• Conduct research, provide interpretations, and respond to internal compliance questions and queries.
• Ensure advertising, promotions, disclosures, and forms are compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.
• Anticipate, prepare for, and support regulatory examinations and internal and external audits. Monitor follow up activities to ensure effective and timely corrective actions.
• Participate in development activities for:
  • New or modified products and services.
  • Changes related to systems, policies, processes, and controls.
  • Business or company initiatives or projects
• Coordinate activities for an effective compliance monitoring program.
• Prepare periodic management reports of risks, issues, trends, upcoming regulatory changes, etc.
• Manage an effective compliance training program through the on-line based training system.
• Lead and mentor other Regulatory Service employees that is results oriented, risk focused, and an effective compliance team.
• Investigate and answer complaints by customers directly or through regulatory agencies or outside organizations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For:

• Bachelor's Degree or commensurate experience in compliance and/or mortgage/consumer loan experience (5+ years), and demonstrated management skills.
• Certifications such as Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) is a plus.
• Candidates must be highly motivated, creative, and professional.
• Solid compliance and/or related banking experience and include sound knowledge of all consumer regulations.
• The ability to research, track, and update compliance issues.
• Experience in analysis, project management, communication, (written and verbal), and multitasking a plus.
• Must be team orientated, yet able to work independently.
• Must be organized, detail orientated, decisive, and able to prioritize assignments. Also requires exceptional research and computer skills, specifically with Microsoft products.
• Candidate must have a demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and staff and outside parties such as auditors, examiners, attorneys, and regulators.
