Crane Operator

TMS International, the leading provider of on-site, industrial steel mill services, is seeking a qualified Hydraulic Crane Operator to join our team. The role involves safely operating hydraulic cranes to lift, move, and position heavy materials and equipment within the facility while maintaining a strong focus on workplace safety. Position Overview The Hydraulic Crane Operator will operate hydraulic cranes, conduct pre‑operation inspections, and ensure compliance with all safety protocols. Shift work follows a 12‑hour rotating schedule with 4 days on, 4 days off. Key Responsibilities Operate hydraulic cranes to lift and transport materials and equipment as required. Perform pre‑operation inspections and routine maintenance on crane equipment. Read and interpret load charts and operational manuals to ensure safe lifting practices. Communicate effectively with ground crews to coordinate movements and ensure safety. Maintain accurate logs of crane operations, including load weights and lift times. Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols to maintain a safe working environment. Assist with training and mentoring new operators as required. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications (e.g., NCCCO) preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience operating hydraulic cranes in an industrial setting. Strong understanding of safety standards and load calculations. Ability to read and interpret technical documents and schematics. Excellent communication skills and teamwork abilities.
