Chief Purpose of this Position: The Division ofEndocrinology and Metabolism of Virginia Commonwealth UniversitySchool of Medicine seeks applicants for a position at theAssistant/Associate Professor level to enhance clinical programs inthe care of patients with diabetes, related metabolic conditionsand endocrine disorders. The successful candidate will participateas Clinician-Educator in the teaching and mentoring of medicalstudents, residents and endocrinology fellows in inpatient andoutpatient settings; will establish outpatient clinics in diabetes,general endocrinology and other areas according to the applicant’sinterest; and will contribute to the overall scholarly and researchactivities of the Division.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Teaching: Staff Endocrinology fellows’ clinic andendocrinology consultation service.Teach fellows, residents andmedical students using adult teaching methods that enhance andencourage active learning and ongoing professional development.Complete students, residents and fellows evaluations. Participatein other endocrine educational activities including residentdidactic series, noon conferences, morning report, Endocrine andInternal Medicine Grand Rounds, instruct undergraduate endocrinecourse and other educational duties assigned by the department andservice.

Research: Participate in clinical and administrativeresearch according to skills, interest and funding. Providementoring and supervision of fellows and residents in research andQI initiatives. Research opportunities may include performanceimprovement initiatives or formal extramurally fundedinvestigations and participation may be as principle investigatoror co-investigator.

Service: Work with institutional and administrative staff toattain the objectives of Virginia Commonwealth University and VCUHealth System including patient safety, customer satisfaction,maintenance and enhancement of public perception and fiscalhealth.

Clinical: Provide excellent patient care in generalendocrinology and focused areas of interest and experience in bothinpatient and outpatient settings. Actively participate inmanagement of patients on endocrinology consult service.Joincolleagues in assuring service coverage 24/7/365.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

• Board Eligible/Board Certified in Endocrinology, Diabetes andMetabolism
• Must qualify for an appointment at the Assistant or AssociateProfessor level
• Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty,staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or acommitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
