Dental Assistant Trainee

Dental Health Program AssistantAssists the Director of Dental Health Programs and/or Public Health Hygienist at the WVU HSC, Eastern Division's Dental Program. Accompanies the Dentist to school visits and transcribes information provided. Provides office assistance in preparing paperwork for the follow-up after said school visits. Provides oral health education to school-age children under the direction of the Dentist.Minimum Qualifications:High School Diploma or equivalentCore Duties and Responsibilities:Assist providers during patient examination and treatment as instructedGreets patients and prepares for exam by ensuring patients are properly seated, draped and aligned for examinationTransfers dental instruments and supplies to provider during treatmentMaintains a clean, dry oral operating field by using high velocity evacuation systemsPrepares, mixes, measures and dispenses various materials as instructed during dental proceduresEnsures all equipment is clean, sanitized and disinfected at all timesObtains dental supplies and instruments from stock areaPrepares and arranges dental instruments, materials and medication for use during patient careEnsure that all instrumentation is sterilized by appropriate methodsReturns instruments and equipment to appropriate areaSets up and assists with a wide variety of highly specialized patient care procedures in a high specialized patient care environmentsRecords treatment procedures or other information within the electronic record, obtaining prompt electronic provider approvals as necessaryProvides administrative support and assistance as needed in order to meet the operational needs of the clinics.Physical Requirements:Must meet Department of Labor's MEDIUM duty standard (MEDIUM WORK- exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly)Able to bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for an 8 to 10 hours shiftWorking Environment:May be scheduled to work various shifts based on departmental and patient needs.Will be expected to work offsite with the Dentist in schools throughout Berkeley and Jefferson Counties.May be required to travel between facilities/buildings.Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40Shift: Non-ExemptCompany: BMC Berkeley Medical CenterCost Center: 8400 UHAE DentalAddress: 2008 Professional Court Martinsburg West VirginiaEqual Opportunity EmployerWest Virginia University Health System and its subsidiaries (collectively "WVUHS") is an equal opportunity employer and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local fair employment practices laws.
