CONTROLLER - Staten Island, New York Are you a hands-on accounting leader looking for more than another Controller position? We are conducting a confidential search for a Controller who wants to build a long-term career and take ownership of a respected accounting function. This is a succession opportunity replacing a tenured Controller who will be available to provide training, transfer valuable institutional knowledge, and support a smooth transition. The Controller will lead a small accounting team while working closely with sales, operations, human resources, and executive leadership. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting knowledge with sound business judgment, a service-oriented mindset, and the ability to prioritize time-sensitive operational needs. This is not a position for someone who wants to remain behind a desk or operate solely at a strategic level. We are looking for an approachable, responsive, roll-up-your-sleeves leader who enjoys being part of the business and wants to make a meaningful, long-term impact. RESPONSIBILITIES Lead, mentor, and develop a small accounting team Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statements, and management reports Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, banking, cash activity, and treasury functions Maintain accurate general-ledger records and supporting schedules Manage high-value inventory and related financing arrangements Review deal cost sheets, customer transactions, commissions, deposits, and closing documentation Ensure timely and accurate support for business-critical transactions Prepare and remit applicable multistate sales-and-use taxes Coordinate annual financial reviews, external audits, insurance audits, and retirement-plan reporting Maintain and strengthen internal controls, policies, and procedures Partner with operations, sales, HR, leadership, banks, lenders, and outside advisors Learn and take ownership of established accounting systems and processes Identify practical opportunities to improve efficiency, reporting, and financial controls Balance accounting discipline with the evolving needs of a fast-moving business QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience At least 3–5 years as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, or comparable accounting leader Hands-on ownership of monthly close and financial reporting Experience in an inventory-based, transaction-driven, retail, distribution, dealership, or similarly operational business Strong knowledge of general ledger, AP, AR, payroll, banking, reconciliations, inventory, and internal controls Experience leading or supervising accounting employees Advanced Microsoft Excel skills Experience with accounting, ERP, or management systems Excellent communication, organization, prioritization, and follow-through Ability to work effectively across departments and levels of leadership Stable employment history and interest in a long-term opportunity Ability to work on-site in Staten Island PREFERRED EXPERIENCE High-value inventory accounting Inventory, asset-backed, borrowing-base, or floor-plan financing Deal cost sheets, commissions, and transaction accounting Multistate sales-and-use tax Multi-entity accounting and consolidated reporting ADP Workforce Now NetSuite, SAP, Sage, QuickBooks, or comparable ERP platforms CPA license or public-accounting experience Experience improving processes without disrupting successful operations BENEFITS Competitive base salary of $125,000–$150,000 Medical insurance Dental insurance Vision insurance 401(k) plan with company matching Structured training and transition support Highly visible position with direct access to company leadership Opportunity to influence accounting operations across the organization Stable, long-term career opportunity with an established and growing company Collaborative environment where accounting is viewed as an essential business partner #J-18808-Ljbffr
