Surgical Tech III

Position Summary Demonstrates through clinical practice a clear understanding of sterile techniques and has a working knowledge of the specialized instrumentation and equipment required for a variety of specialty procedures. Demonstrates competency to operate all specialty instruments, supplies, and equipment to at least one tertiary specialty service. Responsibilities Maintain an orderly surgical field and consistently pass instruments and supplies quickly and efficiently to the surgeon. Able to anticipate and prioritize the needs of the various steps associated with the procedure. Takes part in sponge, needle and instrument counts as dictated by the procedure. Responsible for maintaining the surgical specimen in a manner that identifies and preserves them for pathology evaluation. Assists in ordering and stocking of specialty supplies under the direction of management staff and departmental guidelines. In collaboration with a Registered Nurse, serve as a technical subject matter expert for at least one tertiary specialty. Provide scrub services for major procedures in at least two surgical specialties (independently with high physician satisfaction). Prepare and conduct technical performance‑oriented training related to specialty service. Serve as a preceptor to perioperative personnel rotating through the scrub role associated with their primary specialty(s) or second circulator on major tertiary procedures. Collaborate with surgeons and proactively address case needs when performing duties in either the scrub or second circulator roles. In collaboration with clinical leadership, assist in workflow process improvement activities, contribute to organizational effectiveness, and demonstrate career growth and development. Transport and deliver items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility. May have limited access to areas storing medications. Maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards. Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent. Successful completion of a Surgical Technology training program; or Orlando Health training program. Maintain current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification. Four (4) year surgical tech experience.
