We are currently seeking experienced Journeyman Electricians to support facility maintenance operations at the Dallas VA Medical Center . This position offers the opportunity to work within a mission-driven healthcare environment while helping maintain the critical electrical infrastructure that supports the care of our nation's Veterans.
Position Summary
The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for performing skilled electrical installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on a wide variety of electrical systems and equipment throughout the Dallas VA Medical Center. The position supports the reliable operation of essential hospital infrastructure, including electrical distribution systems, emergency power equipment, HVAC components, lighting systems, alarms, motors, medical and laboratory equipment, switchgear, transformers, and related utility systems.
The successful candidate will work independently with minimal supervision while coordinating daily activities with the Department of Veterans Affairs Contracting Officer's Representative (COR). All work must be completed in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC), OSHA regulations, Department of Veterans Affairs policies, and established industry best practices.

Any work outside normal business hours, including overtime, must receive prior written approval from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Overtime may only be performed after an approved bilateral contract modification has been executed in accordance with applicable Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) requirements. Employees are not authorized to work overtime without prior Government approval.
Alternative work schedules may be implemented only through mutual agreement between the Government and GD Resources LLC.

Key Responsibilities
Electrical Maintenance and Repair
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on commercial and institutional electrical systems.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, replace, and install electrical equipment and components.
- Maintain electrical distribution systems supporting hospital operations.
- Repair electrical motors, motor controls, transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, disconnect switches, lighting systems, electrical panels, and associated equipment.
- Install, modify, and repair electrical circuits, conduit systems, wiring, raceways, and electrical devices.
- Maintain emergency generators, emergency power systems, transfer switches, and associated electrical infrastructure.
Perform maintenance and repair on electrical systems supporting:
- Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) equipment
- Fire alarm systems
- Medical and laboratory equipment
- Interior and exterior lighting
- Electrical distribution systems
- Utility infrastructure
- Motors and motor control equipment
- Transformers and switchgear
- Emergency backup power systems
- Utilize electrical testing equipment and diagnostic instruments to identify system failures.
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.
- Perform testing to verify proper system operation following repairs.
- Recommend corrective actions and equipment improvements when appropriate.
- Install conduit, electrical wiring, panels, switches, receptacles, disconnects, breakers, and related electrical equipment.
- Modify existing electrical systems to support facility operational needs.
- Ensure all work complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC), OSHA regulations, and Department of Veterans Affairs standards.
- Perform scheduled inspections and preventive maintenance on electrical systems and equipment.
- Inspect switchgear, transformers, electrical panels, motors, generators, emergency power systems, and related infrastructure.
- Maintain maintenance records and identify equipment requiring repair or replacement.
- Follow all OSHA regulations, VA safety requirements, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and National Electrical Code standards.
- Safely perform work involving energized electrical equipment operating up to 4,160 volts AC .
- Identify workplace hazards and implement appropriate corrective actions.
- Utilize required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
The selected electrician will work closely with VA personnel while remaining under the supervision and direction of GD Resources LLC.
Responsibilities include:
- Reporting daily to the designated VA Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) for work assignments.
- Coordinating assigned work with Government personnel.
- Providing progress updates throughout the workday.
- Maintaining professional communication with VA staff.
- Completing assigned work safely and efficiently with minimal supervision.
At the conclusion of each work shift, the Journeyman Electrician shall provide the designated COR with a summary of completed work, including:
- Specific tasks performed.
- Preventive maintenance completed and the exact equipment or system serviced.
- Identification of replacement parts installed, including equipment serial numbers when applicable.
- Description of any equipment or systems requiring additional maintenance or repair.
- Identification of the technician(s) who completed the work.
Work Schedule
The normal work schedule is:
- Monday through Friday
- 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
- Approximately 80 hours per pay period
Any work outside normal business hours, including overtime, must receive prior written approval from the Department of Veterans Affairs. Candidates must possess:
- Active Texas Journeyman Electrician License .
- Current OSHA Safety Certification.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining and repairing commercial, industrial, institutional, or healthcare electrical systems.
- Thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and technical manuals.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Preference may be given to candidates with experience in:
- Veterans Affairs Medical Centers.
- Hospitals or healthcare facilities.
- Emergency power generation systems.
- High-voltage electrical distribution.
- HVAC electrical controls.
- Preventive maintenance programs.
- Commercial facility maintenance.
This position requires the ability to:
- Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull heavy tools, equipment, and materials.
- Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work for extended periods.
- Work from ladders, scaffolding, lifts, rooftops, and elevated platforms.
- Perform work in confined spaces, mechanical rooms, crawl spaces, and outdoor environments.
- Safely perform duties involving energized electrical systems and exposure to electrical hazards, including the risk of shock, burns, and arc flash.
Electricians are required to wear appropriate PPE while performing assigned duties, including:
- Arc-rated or natural fiber long-sleeve shirts and long pants.
- OSHA-compliant steel-toe work boots.
- Approved eye protection.
- Hearing protection.
- Additional PPE as required by OSHA regulations and VA safety policies.
Prior to beginning work, selected personnel will complete all required Department of Veterans Affairs onboarding requirements, including:
- Facility orientation.
- VA safety training.
- Security credentialing and badge issuance.
- Site-specific operational procedures.
- Any additional mandatory training required by the medical center.
- Government-furnished parts, materials, tools, and replacement equipment will be provided unless otherwise specified by the contract.
- All work shall be coordinated with the VA Contracting Officer's Representative to minimize disruption to hospital operations.
- GD Resources LLC will maintain primary and emergency points of contact available to the Government throughout contract performance.
- Personnel are expected to exercise due care while working on Government property and immediately report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or operational concerns.
- Contractors may be held responsible for damages resulting from negligent or intentional acts and are expected to perform all duties with professionalism, accountability, and adherence to established safety standards.
