Receiving Clerk


Job Purpose:


The receiving clerk accepts, inspects, and logs incoming shipments, unloads delivery trucks and updates inventory records.



Nature of Duties:

• Unload and inspect: Safely remove goods from delivery trucks and check for visible damage or missing items.
• Verify orders: Match package contents, packing slips, and quantities directly against purchase orders and vendor invoices.
• Update records: Enter incoming stock data into digital inventory databases or warehouse software.
• Organize stock: Label, sort, and place items onto correct shelves, racks, or storage zones.
• Manage issues: Report damaged goods, wrong items, or shortages to managers or suppliers.

• Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Attention to detail: Spotting item discrepancies and recording precise inventory counts.
• Physical stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and lift heavy boxes (often 50 pounds or more).
• Technical skills: Basic computer literacy and experience with warehouse scanners or database spreadsheets.
• Communication: Working smoothly with delivery drivers, vendors, and internal team members.
