Available Locations Texas, US About the Role At Cloudflare, we are on a mission to help build a better Internet. As the Manager of Customer Engineering, you will lead, inspire, and grow a team of high-performing, quota-carrying Customer Engineers who serve as trusted technical advisors across the entire customer lifecycle. In this role, you will partner closely with Regional Sales Leadership to execute on our technical go-to-market strategy, drive platform adoption, and ensure your team consistently delivers measurable business outcomes for enterprise clients. Responsibilities Team Leadership & Talent Development: Recruit, hire, coach, and retain a high-performing team of Customer Engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, continuous learning, and strategic customer advisory. Go-To-Market & Revenue Strategy: Partner directly with Regional Sales Leadership to align technical resources with high-impact pipeline opportunities, ensure seamless technical execution (PoCs, architectural reviews), and drive revenue growth across both new acquisition and account expansion targets. Lifecycle Technical Governance: Oversee the technical health, onboarding, and long-term platform adoption of your team’s account portfolio, serving as a point of escalation for complex architectural challenges or customer risk factors. Commercial Accountability: Track and manage team performance against variable quotas, SaaS adoption metrics, and time-to-value milestones, ensuring your CEs effectively connect Cloudflare’s capabilities to executive business ROI. Process & AI Automation Scaling: Champion the integration of internal AI tools and automated workflows across your team to reduce administrative friction (e.g., automated RFPs, sandbox provisioning), empowering CEs to maximize time spent on high-value customer engagements. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the strategic bridge between your field team and Cloudflare’s Product, Engineering, and Customer Success organizations to advocate for customer feature requests, share competitive intelligence, and refine market positioning. Desirable Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Leadership Experience: 5+ years of experience managing, leading, or mentoring customer-facing technical teams (e.g., Customer Engineering, Solutions Engineering, Sales Engineering, or Forward Deployed Engineering). Technical Breadth: Strong background in web security, networking protocols (DNS, routing, DDoS mitigation), cloud infrastructure, and enterprise SaaS architecture. Commercial Acumen: Proven track record of success in a revenue-aligned or quota-carrying organization, with deep familiarity with SaaS metrics, enterprise sales cycles, and value realization strategies. Operational Drive: Experience using telemetry, data, and health metrics to manage team performance, mitigate churn risks, and drive account expansion. Communication & Influence: Exceptional executive presence and communication skills, with a proven ability to interface with C-level stakeholders and translate complex technical topics into business value. Bonus Points Cloudflare & Edge Ecosystem: Hands-on experience with or deep understanding of Cloudflare’s Developer Platform, specifically Workers AI, AI Gateway, and Vectorize. AI & Automation Mindset: Familiarity with leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, or modern automated workflows to optimize team productivity and operational efficiency. Technical Aptitude: Experience with scripting or programming languages (e.g., JavaScript, Python) to better guide your team in edge computing and API integration discussions. Compensation This role offers a competitive base salary along with a variable compensation plan tied directly to regional team performance, revenue acquisition, and portfolio growth targets. Final compensation packages are determined by location, level, and candidate experience. Compensation may be adjusted depending on work location. This role is eligible to earn incentive compensation under Cloudflare’s Sales Compensation Plan. The estimated annual salary range includes the on-target incentive compensation that may be attained in this role under the Sales Compensation Plan.
