Registered Nurse In Intensive Care Unit

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - Experience with chest tubes - Experience with arterial lines - Experience with Swan Ganz catheters Description: The ICU has 11 beds, all private rooms. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:1 to 1:2. The unit requires certification in ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS. Nurses may float to telemetry with a ratio of 1:4 or to medical-surgical with a ratio of 1:5. There is an intensivist on call after 5 PM. Nurses are required to read telemetry strips as monitor techs are available only on day shifts. Common patient diagnoses include open heart surgery, general surgery, STEMIs, strokes, and patients on vents with chest tubes. Nurses will administer medications such as dopamine, levophed, epinephrine, and nitroglycerin. There is a PICC line team available when needed. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. Pharmacy services are available for 24/7 but limited after 10 PM. Travel experience is preferred. Candidates must have a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience. Floating to other units may be required based on staffing needs. Nurses will take on a small patient load when serving as charge nurse. Work holidays will be scheduled with permanent staff rotation.
