Position Overview This role is an opportunity to support the development of a world-class geotechnical program across a diverse portfolio of mining assets in North America. The role reports to the Mining and Rock Mechanics team as a Director, Geotechnical. The position is responsible for:Shape and lead geotechnical strategies and designs across the open pit, underground and leach pads.Support the tailings teams with geotechnical requirements.Mentor the geotechnical teams at the operating sites.Influence cross-functional and executive decision-making at the enterprise level.Drive governance, assurance, and innovation in ground control and stability.Contribute directly to long-term asset value, risk management, and sustainability.Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic LeadershipMaintain and improve a long-term vision for geotechnical excellence aligned with Coeur’s business strategy.Serve as the corporate Subject Matter Expert (SME) for geotechnical engineering across all assets.Collaborate with executive leadership and technical stakeholders to integrate geotechnical risk into business planning and investment decisions.Identify and lead innovation in geotechnical technologies and methodologies.Operational OversightSupport the sites with geotechnical stability and performance of open pit slopes, underground excavations, TSFs, and heap leach pads.Oversee the development and implementation of advanced monitoring systems and risk mitigation frameworks.Guide investigations, root cause analyses, and response strategies related to ground control incidents or performance deviations.Provide due diligence support for mergers, acquisitions, and project evaluations.Governance and Risk AssuranceImplement, and continuously improve corporate standards, policies, and procedures for geotechnical engineering that are aligned with local regulations, best practices and global standards.Lead internal and external audits to verify compliance with all applicable regulations and standards.Collaborate with operations to ensure robust Ground Control Management Plans and emergency response protocols.People and Stakeholder LeadershipRecruit, develop, and mentor a team of highly capable geotechnical professionals across the company.Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and technical excellence.Build partnerships with regulators, consultants, academic researchers, and peer organizations to support innovation and knowledge sharing.QualificationsRequiredBachelor’s degree in Geotechnical, Civil, or Geological Engineering.Minimum of 15 years of progressive geotechnical experience in mining operations or consulting.Proven leadership in multidisciplinary, cross-site environments.Demonstrated expertise in at least three of the following: open pit slope design, underground stability, stope mining, block caving, TSF design and stewardship, heap leach performance.Proficiency with numerical modeling and geotechnical monitoring systems.Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for executive audiences.Willingness to travel approximately 25% to domestic and international sites.Travel may also require short term secondment to sites for support or to setup processes.PreferredMaster’s or PhD in geotechnical or related engineering discipline.Professional Engineering (P.E./P.Eng) license or equivalent.Spanish language proficiency.Experience leading change management initiatives for technical systems and organizational practicesThe salary range offered for this role is $175,000-$185,000 USD. The salary range is a good-faith estimate. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Coeur Mining will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Coeur Mining.
