Job Description

In this position you will be responsible for working with the produce department managers along with all corresponding produce employees. As a buyer for these departments, you will be expected to collaborate with all locations, and ensuring purchased items are delivered and merchandised in stores as instructed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

·        Responsible for purchase of produce at Detroit Produce Terminal and Eastern Market (seasonal) while staying in budget and assessing proper inventories for all locations.

·        Develop and execute retail pricing and purchasing strategies for each store.

·        Establish and maintain relationships with farmers and distributors to secure reliable and cost-effective produce supply.

·        Evaluate produce for quality standards set by Westborn Market.

·        Awareness of industry market trends, and how to adjust purchasing in response.

·        Ability to recognize and react to breaks in the supply chain. Ie: weather, poor crops, recalls, etc.

·        Participate in the resets, remodels and new store openings (training of new teams, department design, design resets, fixtures).

·        Ability to work a schedule with an early morning start time. Some schedule flexibility desired as business needs change during certain times of the year.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

·        Advanced communication skills via email, verbal, and written.

·        Advanced attention to detail with the capability to prioritize and meet deadlines.

·        Ability to improve performance through motivation, training and setting clear expectations, and follow through.

·        Ability to travel to all Westborn Market locations to ensure stability and optimum performance of their departments.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
