CNC Machinist Level 3 – Swiss Lathe

Location: Rancho Santa Margarita
Job Type: Full-Time
Schedule: 6:30am - 2:30pm
Pay Rate: $37.03/HR

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist Level 3 with a strong background in Swiss-style CNC lathes, FANUC controls, and precision machining .

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of relevant machining experience and the ability to independently set up, operate, troubleshoot, and optimize CNC equipment. This position requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to consistently produce small, high-precision turned components while maintaining strict quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently set up and operate CNC Swiss-style lathes to maintain safe, efficient, and continuous production.
• Perform complete machine setups, including tooling selection, tool offsets, program verification, and first-article inspections.
• Adjust tooling, offsets, feeds, and speeds to maintain dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and overall part quality.
• Take ownership of product quality, including in-process inspections, documentation, and compliance with specifications and control plans.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve machining issues involving tool wear, machine alarms, surface finishes, and dimensional variations.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, setup sheets, and specifications, including GD&T.
• Utilize precision measuring instruments and advanced metrology techniques to verify part dimensions and tolerances.
• Grind, sharpen, and recondition carbide and high-speed steel (HSS) cutting tools according to specifications.
• Perform routine equipment inspections and preventive maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
• Maintain accurate production, inspection, quality, and equipment downtime records.
• Identify opportunities to improve machining processes, tooling performance, setup efficiency, and cycle times.
• Communicate and escalate equipment, quality, or safety concerns to prevent production defects.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe machine shop environment.
• Collaborate professionally with team members to support production goals and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of relevant CNC machining experience , preferably involving Swiss-style CNC lathes.
• Strong working knowledge of FANUC CNC controls .
• Proven experience machining small, high-precision turned components.
• Ability to independently perform machine setups, adjustments, and troubleshooting.
• Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications.
• Strong understanding of precision measuring instruments, advanced metrology, and inspection techniques.
• Experience with CNC programming and program adjustments.
• Knowledge of carbide and HSS cutting tool grinding, sharpening, or reconditioning.
• Ability to identify and resolve machining problems involving tooling, dimensions, and surface finishes.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining quality standards.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining productivity and safety.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
