Audit Director

Annual base salary: $165,000 to $210,000 | Based on experience

Bring your public accounting experience to a firm where you can help shape the audit practice. We are partnering with a growing accounting and advisory firm seeking an Audit Director in Madison. This hybrid leadership opportunity offers visibility, influence over client service and team development, and room to expand your impact as the firm grows.

You will oversee complex engagements and important client relationships while helping managers and teams deliver consistently strong work. The role is suited to an experienced audit leader who brings technical credibility, commercial judgment, and a genuine interest in developing people.

What you will do

• Oversee a portfolio of audit engagements, guiding quality, risk assessment, technical decisions, and delivery.
• Advise client leadership on financial reporting matters, audit findings, and practical recommendations.
• Review significant accounting judgments, financial statements, and engagement conclusions with appropriate firm leadership.
• Develop audit managers and future leaders through coaching, feedback, and thoughtful delegation.
• Partner with firm leadership on staffing, capacity, engagement profitability, and practice improvements.
• Support practice growth through strong client relationships, proposals, and relevant service opportunities.

What you bring

• Approximately 8 or more years of progressive public accounting audit experience, including substantial management responsibility.
• Active CPA license and a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
• Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, auditing standards, financial reporting, and engagement risk.
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex engagements, develop managers, and advise senior client stakeholders.
• Strong commercial judgment and experience contributing to client retention or practice growth.
