Mechanical Assembler - Switchboards & Lighting Panels $22hr
Job Description
This role focuses on assembling mechanical and electro-mechanical components, including switchboards and lighting panels, by reading blueprints and related documentation, using common hand and power tools, and following established production schedules and quality standards. You will work on an assembly line in a climate-controlled facility, processing work orders via computer systems, performing mechanical assembly and basic wiring, and preparing finished units for shipment while maintaining a safe and clean work area.

Work Environment
The role is based in a climate-controlled facility with typical indoor working conditions. Team members may be assigned to different shifts and should be prepared to occasionally lift heavy materials. The position requires the use of common safety equipment such as cut-resistant gloves and sleeves, safety shoes, safety glasses, and ear plugs, and involves exposure to loud noises and the possibility of minor bumps, cuts, scrapes, and strains. Standard hours for the first shift are Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Overtime is voluntary and managed through a sign-up sheet posted one week in advance; if there are not enough volunteers, some Saturdays may become mandatory to meet production needs. Work is performed in a production and assembly line setting using hand and power tools, specialized equipment, computers, and scanning devices, with an emphasis on maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area.

Job Description
This role focuses on assembling mechanical and electro-mechanical components, including switchboards and lighting panels, by reading blueprints and related documentation, using common hand and power tools, and following established production schedules and quality standards. You will work on an assembly line in a climate-controlled facility, processing work orders via computer systems, performing mechanical assembly and basic wiring, and preparing finished units for shipment while maintaining a safe and clean work area.
Responsibilities
- Perform revolving assembly operations involving electronic, electro-mechanic, and mechanical assemblies and subassemblies.
- Use hand and power tools and other equipment common to the mechanical trade to assemble parts and components.
- Process work orders using computers and scanning devices in adherence to the production schedule or expedited orders.
- Scan in and out of work orders using computers and scanning devices to accurately track work progress and time.
- Read and interpret blueprints, bills of materials, one-line diagrams, schematics, and other documents associated with mechanical assembly assignments.
- Gather required parts, components, and accessories needed for the assembly process.
- Assemble fabricated parts to create unit assemblies such as switchboards and lighting panels, as well as subassemblies.
- Fasten component parts onto cubicles, frames, subassemblies, or unit assemblies using appropriate tools and methods.
- Connect cables and perform basic wiring, including point-to-point wiring, according to specifications and diagrams.
- Organize and maintain personal hand stock, continuously monitoring the availability of parts and selecting appropriate components according to specifications.
- Use specific equipment and a range of specialized tools and ensure they remain in proper working condition.
- Perform visual checks and general quality test routines and procedures to verify functionality and conformance.
- Verify that units meet specifications, tolerances, and customer order requirements, and adjust or replace parts as needed.
- Mark unit assemblies with identifying information and/or attach identifying tags for traceability.
- Report non-conforming items, such as incorrect parts, schematics, or blueprints, and assist in taking corrective action.
- Prepare finished units for shipping by packing, sealing, labeling, and staging them according to shipping requirements.
- Clean and maintain equipment and the work area to ensure proper functioning and safe working conditions.
- Access and utilize various documents associated with the manufacture of products in assembly, including quality and safety documents and operating instructions, using computers as required.
- Assist in resolving routine manufacturing-related problems that affect daily operations.
- Follow all safety procedures, wear required safety equipment, and actively promote a safe work environment.
- Perform other related work and duties as directed to support production and operational needs.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools common to the mechanical trade.
- Ability to perform mechanical assembly and electro-mechanical assembly on an assembly line in a production environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, bills of materials, one-line diagrams, and schematics.
- Experience with wiring and basic electrical tasks, including point-to-point wiring and cable connections.
- Ability to process and manage work orders using computers and scanning devices.
- Strong attention to detail to verify that units meet specifications, tolerances, and customer requirements.
- Capability to identify non-conforming items and support corrective actions.
- Commitment to safety advocacy, including promoting and maintaining a safe work environment and identifying and eliminating hazards.
