Ordinance Officer - Part-time

Interested in making a difference in a community? The City of Garden City is looking for three individuals to work part-time (16-20 hours per week) in our Code Enforcement Department. This Department works closely with the Police Department, Building Department and 21st District Court to enforce the Codes and Ordinances of the City of Garden City. Employees will typically work a day shift, but hours may include some nights and weekends. This is the perfect opportunity for college students looking for a flexible, rewarding position, someone interested in exploring a career in municipal government/law enforcement, or someone looking to be able to make an impact with their work. The position will remain open until filled. Work is performed under the direction of the Chief of Police, and/or their designee. Education/Experience: High School diploma or equivalent Completion of college-level coursework in law enforcement, building inspection or a field related to the work is highly desirable Experience in the enforcement of zoning laws and building codes with a public agency is highly desirable Job duties include: Patrolling assigned areas of the City to identify code violations Responding to complaints reported to the City Communicating with residents and business owners regarding violations, remedies and time frames Writing tickets for violations Maintaining detailed documentation Attention to detail Updating database with the most current information Communicating the most recent developments to other employees/departments as needed Appearing in Court and testifying when necessary #J-18808-Ljbffr City of Garden City
