Senior Associate, Senior System Designer Digital & Performance Marketing New York Life is building the next generation of digital experiences for our customers, supported by a scalable, enterprise design system. We are seeking a Design System to join our MADI Design System team. This role is ideal for a senior design systems contributor who leads component architecture and governs system adoption across product areas. You will own workstream-level scope within our MADI Design System, driving design-to-code alignment with engineering and ensuring consistent, accessible UI across a portfolio of products. What You'll Do: Lead component architecture for assigned product areas, defining patterns and structures others build from Design scalable UI components that support multiple products and use cases Build and manage components, variants, and documentation in Figma Apply accessibility best practices (WCAG, ADA) to system components Lead system adoption governance for assigned product areas, ensuring teams apply components correctly and consistently Drive design-to-code alignment with front-end engineers, resolving implementation gaps and maintaining fidelity across products Apply fluency in React component structures to extend Madi for AI-native patterns (loading states, confidence indicators, conversational UI primitives) Own component handoff documentation and govern implementation quality, conducting QA reviews against design intent Collaborate on refining component patterns based on engineering and product feedback Apply fluency with AI-assisted design-to-code tools to accelerate component development and documentation; govern AI content quality for assigned features Stay informed on emerging design system, front-end, and AI practices Partner with product designers, product managers, and engineers across teams Clearly communicate design intent, guidelines, and system usage Provide thoughtful design feedback and support to system contributors Help teams understand how and when to use system components effectively What We're Looking For: 6–9 years of experience in UI or product design for digital products 3+ years of experience leading or making significant contributions to a design system, including component governance and adoption Experience collaborating with front-end engineers on component-based UI Exposure to enterprise, multi-product, or regulated environments is a plus Strong proficiency in Figma, including components and shared libraries Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and responsive design principles Fluency with React-based design systems and component-driven development; able to evaluate implementation quality against design intent Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG, ADA) Experience working in Agile or cross-functional product teams Comfortable working independently in a contract environment Strong collaboration and communication skills Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities Curious mindset with interest in growing design system and technical skills Nice to Have: Experience with AI-assisted design tools or workflows Familiarity with CMS platforms such as Adobe Experience Manager Experience in financial services, insurance, or other regulated industries Additional Information: This is a contract role supporting enterprise-scale digital products. Portfolio demonstrating UI systems, components, or scalable design work is required. Salary Range: $111,500-$159,000 Overtime eligible: Exempt Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes Sales bonus eligible: No Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program. New York Life
