Director of HR

Vector Building Products is a growing private equity-backed platform focused on building a leading national business through organic growth and strategic acquisitions. The Director of Human Resources will lead the HR function across Vector and its operating companies, with primary responsibility for payroll, HR compliance, benefits, recruiting, and employee relations .

The Director will report to the Chief Financial Officer and work closely with the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer to support the company’s continued growth and acquisition strategy. This is a hands‑on role requiring someone who can manage day‑to‑day HR needs while building scalable processes for a growing organization.

Travel:

This role will work from their home office, however, requires approximately 25% travel to branch locations throughout the US. A candidate in Eastern Time Zone or Central Time Zone is preferred. Additionally, it is preferred the candidate lives within 50 miles of a major airport.

This is a very hands‑on Director role due to the high company growth. You will have no direct reports initially, but will own all HR strategic and tactical functions of the Company.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll & HR Administration

• Own and oversee payroll processing across the organization, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Manage payroll, HRIS, and other HR service providers.
• Maintain accurate employee records and HR processes across operating companies.
• Identify opportunities to improve and streamline HR administration.

HR Compliance

• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
• Maintain HR policies, employee records, required filings, and documentation.
• Partner with legal and external advisors on employment‑related matters.
• Monitor regulatory changes and implement necessary updates.
• Manage company benefit programs, including healthcare, dental, vision, life, disability, and 401(k) .
• Manage relationships with benefits brokers, carriers, and retirement plan providers.
• Lead annual renewals and open enrollment.
• Ensure accurate eligibility, enrollment, deductions, and plan administration.
• Evaluate benefits and recommend improvements as the organization grows.

M&A & Integration

• Support HR activities throughout the M&A process , including due diligence and post‑closing integration.
• Lead integration of payroll, benefits, HR systems, policies, employee data, and compliance for newly acquired companies.
• Develop repeatable HR integration processes to support future acquisitions.
• Partner with the CFO, CEO, COO, and operating company leadership throughout the integration process.

Employee Relations

• Serve as a resource to employees and managers on HR policies, benefits, payroll, and workplace matters.
• Support managers with performance management and employee relations issues.
• Promote consistent HR practices and a strong employee culture across the organization.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive HR experience with significant experience in payroll, benefits, compliance, and recruiting .
• Demonstrated experience with M&A and integration of newly acquired companies .
• Direct experience managing company benefit plans, including healthcare and 401(k) .
• Experience supporting multiple locations, business units, or companies.
• Experience in a private equity‑backed, acquisitive, or high‑growth environment preferred.
• Strong knowledge of payroll, employment compliance, and HR systems.
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with senior leadership.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 25%.

Nice‑to‑Have Qualifications

• Experience in the construction, building products, distribution, or related industries .
• Experience building HR processes and infrastructure in a growing organization.
• PHR, SPHR, SHRM‑CP, or SHRM‑SCP certification.
• Experience implementing or transitioning HRIS and payroll systems across multiple companies.
