Prosthetic and Orthotic Assistant, Certified

Role Overview An ABC certified assistant participates in comprehensive orthotic and prosthetic care under indirect supervision of a certified or licensed orthotist and/or prosthetist. They perform procedures, fabricate, repair, and maintain orthoses and prostheses, and assist in implementing treatment plans. Key Responsibilities Acquire anthropometric data, modify physical data, select materials, develop prototypes, conduct fittings, and evaluate interventions to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Conduct gait and functional training, document patient education and encounters, and modify care plans based on patient progress. Additional Duties Assist in developing long-term treatment strategies, ensure compliance with practice management policies, and adhere to legal and safety standards. Promote professional growth through continuing education, participate in research, and contribute to the field’s knowledge base. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be certified as a Prosthetic-Orthotic Assistant (CPOA) through the American Board of Certification (ABC).
