Medical Assistant

Location: New York, NY Duration: 03 months Contract Schedule: Monday-Friday, 12pm-8pm Hourly rate: $21/hour on W2 (Negotiable)

Job Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care, including:
  • Perform venipuncture/phlebotomy and EKGs as required.
  • Check daily schedules and organize patient flow.
  • Escort patients to exam or procedure rooms.
  • Assist patients with walking, transferring, and dressing.
  • Collect, process, and label specimens.
  • Perform point-of-care testing.
  • Prepare patients and examination rooms for procedures.
  • Take and document vital signs.
  • Assist physicians during examinations and procedures.
  • Relay physician instructions to patients and families.
  • Answer telephone calls and provide appropriate information.
• Perform clerical and administrative duties, including:
  • Send and receive patient medical records.
  • Obtain lab reports, imaging reports, hospital notes, and referral documentation.
  • Complete medical forms, requisitions, and other required paperwork.
  • Maintain patient charts and ensure documentation is complete and properly filed.
  • Use the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system for documentation and record management.
• Enter physician orders into the EMR.
• Prepare prescription refill requests for physician review and approval.
• Maintain inventory of medical supplies by ordering and restocking as needed.
• Set up examination rooms and instruments using proper sterilization and infection control procedures.
• Maintain required logs for:
  • Medication refrigeration
  • Sterilization processes
  • Point-of-care testing
  • Crash carts
  • Other regulatory requirements
• Monitor medication and medical supply expiration dates and dispose of expired items according to policy.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant work environment.
• Follow all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), infection control, OSHA, and safety guidelines.
• Assist with maintenance of medical charts, operative reports, test results, and home care documentation.
• Schedule surgeries and procedures when required.
• Coordinate with surgical schedulers by:
  • Confirming appointment times with patients
  • Preparing charts
  • Completing pre-admission paperwork
  • Preparing consent forms
• Perform appointment scheduling and patient registration.
• Update patient demographic and insurance information.
• Maintain and adjust provider schedules.
• Verify and update insurance information using internal systems and web resources.
• Complete insurance pre-certifications for procedures as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Understanding of HIPAA regulations.
• Medical billing system experience preferred but not required.

Soft Skills

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with multicultural and limited-English-speaking patients.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Professional telephone etiquette.

Preferred Experience

• Experience working in a Radiology environment.
• MRI experience strongly preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred (may be required depending on assignment).
