Senior Social Media Coordinator

$53.1k - $90.6k

Washington University in St. Louis

Location ST. LOUIS, MO 63105 Scheduled Hours 37.5 Position Summary The Senior Social Media Coordinator owns the day-to-day voice and presence of WashU Bursky School of Public Health across its social media channels and helps extend the online presence of the school’s leadership. As the first new school at Washington University in St. Louis in a century, and one of the newest schools of public health in the country, the school is introducing itself to the world at a defining moment, and social media is where much of that introduction happens. This role requires independence and initiative to support building out social media content for key priorities, including admissions efforts, in an evolving high-growth environment. This role translates the school’s rigorous research and its distinctive approach to public health into clear, compelling content that reaches the audiences the school most wants to engage: current and prospective students, current and prospective faculty and staff, peer institutions, community partners, leaders in the field of public health, alumni, and donors. While the focus is social media, the coordinator will also support other content efforts as needed. Strong editing and storytelling skills are a must. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Develop and publish social media content. Independently identify, create, and deliver compelling, platform-optimized content across the school’s social media channels, with a current emphasis on LinkedIn and Instagram. Follow what is happening across the school in research, education, practice, admissions, events, and people news, and turn complex work into clear, engaging content that stands out in a crowded feed. Bring hands-on skill in social-first photography, videography, and content creation. Shape and drive social media strategy. In partnership with Communications leadership, define what each platform is for, who it reaches, and how content supports the school’s communications priorities. Prepare social media plans and toolkits for major events, announcements, and initiatives. Refine the approach based on performance and audience response so the school’s voice stays consistent, distinctive, and effective among peer institutions. Measure performance and adjust strategy accordingly. Monitor reach, engagement, and growth across channels and provide regular reports to Communications leadership, along with insights on how to shift strategy. Use data to sharpen what the school posts, where, and when, and to improve the results of social media efforts. Support the online presence of school leadership. Assist other Communications team members in developing and strengthening the social media presence of the dean and other school leaders, shaping content and voice that position them as credible, visible figures in public health and amplify the school’s work through their channels. Collaborate across the school and university. Collaborate with Admissions, Advancement, and other offices to advance school priorities through social media, and coordinate with the University Marketing & Communications social media team and other marketing and communications leads across the school and university. Develop an effective system for monitoring and responding to social conversations related to the school, and ensure all published content meets the highest standards for quality, accuracy, and approval. Advise faculty and staff. Leverage extensive experience to provide effective, well-informed counsel to faculty and staff on social media platform development, best practices, and strategy. Support related communications efforts. Perform other duties as assigned, including supporting website content, newsletters, and other publications in service of Communications, Admissions, Advancement, and other initiatives.
