Senior Staff Accountant$30.00 to $38.00 per hourBethesda, MarylandPosition SummaryOur client is seeking an experienced Senior Staff Accountant to support the day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting functions of the organization. The ideal candidate will have strong general ledger experience, expertise in month-end close activities, audit support, account reconciliations, and accounts payable processes. This role requires a detail-oriented professional who can work independently, maintain accurate financial records, and contribute to continuous process improvements.Key ResponsibilitiesGeneral Accounting & Financial ReportingSupport the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including the preparation and review of journal entries and supporting schedules.Assist with the annual external audit and provide required documentation and support to auditors.Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations, accrual schedules, prepaid expense schedules, and other supporting workpapers.Research and analyze account variances and provide detailed explanations to management.Reconcile fixed assets, investment accounts, and other assigned balance sheet accounts.Ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with GAAP and company policies.Accounts Payable SupportProvide accounts payable coverage as needed, including reviewing approved invoices and employee expense reports for proper coding and supporting documentation.Validate and reconcile Concur expense imports and ensure accurate posting to the general ledger.Prepare and review payment batches to ensure timely vendor payments.Assist with vendor account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.Process Improvement & DocumentationMaintain accounting procedures, process documentation, and Sage Intacct accounting records.Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and strengthen internal controls.Assist with special projects, ad hoc reporting, and financial analysis as requested.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.3+ years of progressive accounting experience.Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.Experience with month-end close, general ledger accounting, and account reconciliations.Strong Microsoft Excel skills.Experience with Sage Intacct and Concur required.Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.BenefitsMedical, dental, and vision insurance.401k retirement account.
