Staff Accountant/Senior Accountant, Fixed Assets

SUMMARY OF POSITION The Staff Accountant/Senior Accountant will play a key role in overseeing capital asset accounting for a portfolio of hotels. The role will ensure capital asset activity is recorded accurately, timely, and in compliance with GAAP, SOX requirements, and Host's internal policies. In addition, the Staff Accountant/Senior Accountant will partner with property teams, Capital Financial Services, IT, to improve processes and leverage technology. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Validate Capex Spend submissions from properties by confirming proper coding and ensuring transactions are posted correctly to Host’s ledger. Analyze Work-in-Progress and Due To/From Manager for Owner-Funded Capex account balances, preparing and recording adjustments as needed. Complete quarterly FF&E escrow reconciliations, identify and communicate variances to properties, and partner with property teams to resolve discrepancies in compliance with SOX guidelines. Collaborate with Capital Financial Services and IT to maintain alignment between Workday and Champion (capital tracking platform) for capital project cost reporting and work jointly to resolve inconsistencies. Process asset dispositions, including recording of proceeds and performing asset retirements in Workday. Participate in Workday release testing for assigned reports and processes to ensure system updates operate as intended. Prepare assigned monthly and quarterly reports and reconciliations. Support internal and external audit requests related to capital expenditures and asset accounting. Assist with additional assignments and special projects as directed. Demonstrate and promote Host’s EPIC values in daily work and interactions. EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE BS/BA in Accounting/Finance from accredited university/college. Two to four years of progressive experience in accounting. Previous experience in real estate, hotel industry preferred. CPA or progress toward CPA certification preferred. REQUIRED SKILLS Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Excellent technical accounting skills with strong attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong Excel skills and proficiency with MS Office. Familiarity with Workday or any other major automated accounting system. Ability to build effective partnerships across departments and communicate clearly with a variety of stakeholders.
