Overview Reporting to the Lead Administrator of the Yale School of Nursing, the Operations Manager ensures that faculty, students, and staff receive high‑quality administrative support compliant with University policies and procedures. The role manages financial and administrative services to advance the unit’s mission, including developing and maintaining budgets, assessing operational challenges, implementing solutions, and serving as a liaison between unit needs and service providers. The position involves oversight of financial transactions, staff training, and coordination of facilities and security issues. It requires significant collaboration and communication across stakeholders to ensure operational efficiency and support strategic projects and ongoing improvements. Required Skills and Abilities Well‑developed managerial, decision‑making, planning, organization, problem‑resolution, and leadership skills. Ability to inspire high performance and manage time and resources effectively. High‑level analytical and quantitative skills with a strong background in finance. Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and experience with financial systems and database management. Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to adapt communication style to address various audiences throughout the University. Demonstrated ability to manage relationships and influence outcomes, ensuring effective collaboration and customer service. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple projects and meet competing deadlines. Principal Responsibilities Provide efficient and effective delivery and integration of all administrative services (academic, financial, research, and/or clinical) for which the manager is accountable, serving as the unit’s point of contact to service providers and monitoring service adequacy. Partner with the Lead Administrator to build financial plans, provide comprehensive financial information, analysis, and reporting, and oversee daily financial monitoring and transaction authorization per policy. Implement and maintain strong internal controls in assigned areas to ensure effective and appropriate resource use, accurate financial information, and adherence to contractual obligations and external regulatory requirements. Connect the unit and the University through communication, alignment of priorities, and active engagement in University administrative priorities, representing unit needs and opportunities at the Lead Administrator and University level. Utilize effective practices for attracting, retaining, and developing high‑quality Business Office talent; collaborate with HR in selection, performance management, career development, and employee relations processes. Partner with the Lead Administrator (and, where appropriate, with the Dean/Director/Chair) to shape the unit’s administrative and operational priorities, translating strategy into actions and recommending resources needed to achieve short‑term and long‑term goals. Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of related experience, including demonstrated leadership, project management, and/or supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience. Thorough working knowledge of accounting, financial reporting and analysis, preferably fund accounting. Experience preparing budgets, forecasts and financial plans, and integrating multiple pieces of financial information to identify themes, trends, and issues.
