Lab Support Technician, First Shift – Outreach Operations Department UC Health is hiring a full‑time Lab Support Technician for the Outreach Operations Department on the first shift at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Location Cincinnati, OH, United States Responsibilities Perform all activities within the Patient Service Centers of the Outreach Laboratory Service, including registration of patients in Horizon, collection of blood and other specimens, and required pre‑analytic processing. Manage client profiles, provide client services, and solve problems to ensure the Center is ready to receive and care for patients daily. Provide technical expertise supporting specimen collection, specimen processing, and customer service functions in the laboratory. Train and assess competency of laboratory support personnel and external customers. Engage in population‑appropriate communication and provide clear instructions to patients and families regarding treatment. Involve family or guardian in assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care of the patient. Identify physical limitations of the patient and deploy interventions when necessary. Recognize and respond appropriately to patients or families with behavioral health problems. Interpret population‑related data and plan care accordingly. Respond to patients with unique psychological needs or those associated with religious or cultural norms, and perform treatments, administer medication, or operate equipment safely. Recognize signs or symptoms of abuse or neglect. Perform duties required of a Lab Support Technician (LST). Serve as a resource to associates, both internal and external to the lab, who order, collect, and process laboratory specimens, including knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, and information systems. Develop and implement orientation, training, and competency protocols for LSTs, ensuring personnel are adequately trained and competent. Interact with Patient Care Services to coordinate consistent application of training and competency programs. Coordinate all aspects of daily workflow for LSTs, including schedules and management of reports used for daily operations. Develop and monitor quality assurance programs for the phlebotomy and processing areas of the laboratory. Provide assistance to the laboratory director by performing all other duties as assigned. Follow all safety policies and procedures. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree preferred. 3–5 years in database management preferred. Education High school diploma or GED required; college science preferred. Years of Experience Two years of laboratory experience preferred. Required Skills and Knowledge Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong teaching, time‑management, organizational, and planning skills; excellent interpersonal skills; and leadership experience.
